i pretty sure, that telewest wanted to bring their name into the channel name somehow,
like tw bravo or tw living.
in regards to uk horizons,
i think it's a good idea to split the channel into two - allows more time for more programmes.
i can't imagine what ntl:home will do to the numbers! uk horizons (138) becomes uk people and uk horizons+1 (827 i think) becomes uk documentary - and if there's going to be uk doc+1, then that will be on 940 or something stupid!!
When will UKTV stop this relentless channel expansion. It's not enough that they close down UK Horizons, they are going to replace it with TWO channels,
NO, they're closing down 2 channels and replacing them with another 2

Or, according to Tumble weed, they're closing down 2 channels and replacing them with 3:
Actually, they are going to replace UK Horizons and UK Horizons +1 with UKTV Documentary, UKTV Documentary +1 and UKTV People.
(Beaten to it by benjy )
UKTV Documentary will broadcast 9am – 3am
UKTV Documentary +1 will broadcast 10am – 4am
UKTV People will broadcast 7pm - 3am (so it will Timeshare with UK Food +1)
Whatever, you can't count +1 channels as being other channels in their own right. They are just a timeshift on the parent channel. Not even UKTV try to do this, with their recent promo touting '8 great channels, one great network' - they didn't count their +1's as being separate channels. UKTV ARE splitting Horizons into 2 channels, that there is a +1 on the existing channel and one of the new channels will be +1'd is irrelevant.
For once I think that this split is a good thing - UK Horizons did start out as a very decent documentry channel, but soon got filled with the populist stuff which will be appear on UKTV People.
Also I'm glad to be proven wrong in that I'd expected the Documentry channel would be the one broadcasting for a few hours each night, like UK Drama.
With the original rules set down when the deal with the BBC was done, how tied up would they be with changing the Flextech channel names to UKTV? It'll be a good move for them, if they get the branding right they could become a big enough name to be well known even by non-multichannel viewers like Sky and MTV.
Telewest Challenge or Telewest Living just doesn't sound right at all, though, does it?
Idents featuring an animation of the Telewest rings logo, fading to the specific channel ident, leading to the logo for the channel coming on screen, with the logo in the telewest font.
