Quite nice to see proper gold material on UK Gold - just saw Lou Beale's exit from the show and the 90second credits (those were the days! ). It's just a shame the more recent EE episode on before it had no announcer and yet the longer old version did and in horrible small-credits ECP style.
Shame the EPG is so rubbish too - listing it as "EastEnders Exits Weekend" until 11.20pm with absolutely no list of who is when. You won't get viewer loyalty just because you list it as a 10 hour programme!
It's the same with the CBBC channel - you get "Animadness" listed for a couple of hours with no idea of what's on when, or these theme days where you have "comedy week" 9am-12.55pm!
Is this kind of scheduling a way of holding onto viewers? I'd imagine particularly with UK Gold, adding new segments bumpered between programmes and having the scheduling not programme specific gives the weekend a bit of mystery and freshness rather than knowing it’s just a "transparent ploy to force more crappy repeats on the viewing public"

As you can guess, I didn't post becuase I watched the whole damn thing (LOL!). Quite interesting to see some old epsiodes- and the hairstyles! For some strange reason, they sped up the credits from the Kathy epsiode- originally they were 90 seconds (and were shown this way on UK Gold last October). On the 1990 Simon Wicks episode, it looks like they used the old UK Gold transfer (we saw the old UK Gold break captions- for some reason absent of the UK Gold logo) so sadly we only got the very curious UK Gold edited end sequence- the opening titles with copyright date. Though it looks like they retransfered the Lou Beale and Den Watts episodes as we got the full credits. It looked tio me a bit liek an excuse to show some more recent editions of EE, as their current weekday run is stuck in July 1999.
So, I guess it's likely that UKGold will either be going right back to the start of EE in 1985, fairly
soon then, or at least rewinding the Walford clock back to some random point in the early 90's.
I actulaly doubt that, though I'd like it. Being 4 years behind the current run is a lot for UK Gold these days- they probabally won't go back until it shows the epsiode that was shown on BBC1 the previous day.
The stupid thing there was when they showed Grant's- the epsiode they showed (with the car crash into the thames) was NOT Grant's final episode- that was around 2 weeks later.
I wish UK Gold/Plus would show older episodes more often - pre 90s, which I've not seen before. Maybe they could show a different episode from a different era in each of the 3 daily slots.
You have a point - Fox Kids did that with Power Rangers last year, albeit at the expense of a lot of other shows!! It would work with something like Eastenders, and with Corrie and Emmerdale - except that there's not many 1960's Corrie shows surviving! (Episode 1 then how many more in black and white? Not many I bet - when the first Corrie was repeated a couple of years back, the frontcap was reproduced!)
