With the vast amount of material in the BBC archives, why does UK Gold, Horrizions, Drama etc keep repeating the same stuff? They are so many series which deserve a repeat, why do we get nothing but The Bill and The Vicar of Dibley.
And wouldn't it be fantastic if we could have a seventies night where not only all the programmes came from the seventies, but the promos and presentation as well. They could even use the Blue Globe ith the dodgy mirror behind it. Hell they could even start it off with an edition of Nationwide!

I'll treasure the day when UK Gold start to broadcast news bulletins from yesteryear!!

I agree, it's always the same old stuff, and most of it is too recent - far too many programmes from the 1990s, and far too much from last year even! I would hardly call 'My Family' gold!
And even when they do show stuff from the 70s and 80s it's always Dad's Army, Only Fools and Horses and so on, which are great shows but we've seen them hundreds of times already! I would ideally like a ban on post-1990 material, a focus mainly on the 60s and 70s - and a return of The Goodies!

Soon, they'll be able to rename UK Gold as BBC One +1hr, the way it's going.
The trouble is, as much as we see the same stuff over and over on UK Gold, the advertisers want it because they know we'll watch it, unlike the oldies stuff which may be hit-and-miss.
A lot of people wrote into UK Gold text pages to ask when they would be showing 'The Bill' from as many wanted it from the start - UK Gold's response? They started from 1993.
I wrote in once asking for Noel's House Party and Going Live but there's absolutely no chance previously 'live' shows would appear - imagine the nightmare with the phone captions etc..!
Looking at UK Gold schedules and programes from the channels early years I can honestly say that in my opinion UK Gold is at its best its been. The channels slogan is ' TV you want to see again and again' so they are obbviously going to repeat programes from time to time and whats more these programes are popular unlike 'The Goodies'.

But they repeat them ad-nausium.
At the moment UK Gold is just BBC Choice with added adverts. All I'm saying is get some variety into the schedules. there are many fantastic series which never get an airing because they just stick the same programmes on again and again. When it was launched I used to watch this channel a lot, but when you have seen everything at least 10 times the appeal begins to wane.
Why not a change from the Bill. Give us a bit of Z Cars instead.

Id rather have My Family or any new comedy than Z Cars. The Summer Nights of Comedy included Blackadder which hasnt been viewed on the channel for more than a year and theyve started showing Only Fools and Horses again starting with a UK Gold premiere series.

Wow. Wasn't that on BBC1 the other week
I think Phil is right with the BBC1+1 hour quote

On the contrary, there are a lot of people out there who would love to see The Goodies again. It used to get audiences of ten million - on BBC2! Unfortunately there hasn't been a terrestrial TV showing since 1986 or even a UK Gold showing since 1995, so it hardly given a chance to become popular again.

I just dont think programes like that should be on UK Gold, perhaps at one time they were but UKGold's current format in my opinion is the way it should stay
Some of the American programmes shouldn't be on UK Gold, mainly because the channel titles 'UK Gold' in itself implies that it is only UK television programmes that are shown.
