So will this mean that UK Gold can go back to it's original remit, and show classic shows from the BBC, not drama's and comedies that are barely 6 months old.
'Will it be on Freview' - well that question always pops up when a new channel starts. First thay want ITV Gold, Now this. Anyway, On from 8pm till 5am, well shame its not on all day. Is it not possible to have Gold +1 and G2 on all day? Sounds like Play UK/BBC Choice type channel. What was the point of getting rid of play if this will show some things that were on that channel? The BBC were scared that PLAY would take viewers away from BBC THREE so got rid of it, and now that they know THREE is not much, start this G2 channel. Not that its a new channel, just going under a new name and showing better stuff than Daytime programs.
I did see an ad today with the Blue 3d logo. I bet thats the huge dog in the corner then!
Nice to see another ill-informed article on the Media Guardian website.
In what way is it ill-informed?
The fact that the Guardian says "The BBC is starting ..." when Flextech are running the channels. The fact that they say "more BBC channels" when one is being axed in favour of another - so how can that be more? Shall I carry on?

Well the UK channels are half owned by Flextech and BBC Worldwide - but even with that in mind, our license fee doesn't pay for it so it's not the BBC as we joe bloggs knows it!
As with most UKTV channels, UK G2 will benefit from a quick route to the BBC archive's - shows such as They Think it's all Over, Shooting Stars, Room 101, Coupling, I'm Alan Partridge and The League of Gentlemen will all be regulars in the schedule.
It sound almost like Play UK, which was axed sometime ago.
Altough Play UK had a brilliant concept, it somehow failed...
Does UKtv realize that?

No, the only change I suspect will be that some shows move to G2 and won't be shown on Gold, but there are many many programmes on Gold that won't fit on G2
Anyway, why change a successful format (and Gold is very successful) which has been developed over the past 11 years and replace it with what they started with

It's audience share has reduced. ITV2 gets a higher share than UK Gold now.
It was still better about 5 years ago with the LiverBirds etc, Now its "The Office" which is also still on the BBC too. An other stuff like that which is only about a year old at least. I think Play UK was better when it was UK Play.

I loved UK Play - fantastic channel. A return of something like it would be very welcome.
I have to say that it was a very good mix, a good mix of good music and very good BBC Comedy, hopefully this new UK G2 will be like the comedy aspect of UK Play. This is a good move anyway as we should hopefully be getting more old programmes on UK Gold and new programmes on UK G2, plus who watches UK Gold 2 at the moment anyway, it is a repeat of what is basically a p*ss poor daytime schedule. One of the problems of UK Play was that on Sky and Cable it was just another channel which no-one really noticed, but on DTT it was the other music channel, for music it was MTV or Play UK, then when ITVD went off it lost the majority of it's viewers.
Though I welcome the move for UK G2, it should make good use of old space.
