This has probably been asked before, but I don't remember...

What's going to happen to the old analogue frequencies once we've all gone digital? are channels 1-5 on our TV's just going to have snow on them as we'll all be pressing the button that our digiboxes will be on - or will they be used for something else?

The digital multiplexes will move onto the existing analogue frequencies at DSO.

With the DSO Will the Falklands be switching to digital as well? I know they recive our VHF and UHF signals, Or will they get an analouge feed from somewhere else? Confused Confused:

The Falklands!? They won't recieve be UK tv channels off-air.

To get them by satellite would take a couple of 'hops' there's no chance of a UHF signal getting down there

Bingo. BFBS broadcast ATT on Band III and IV through their own transmitters. They aren't going to be changing them in the near future. Intresting to note though that they offer a DTT service in Iraq and Afganistan...

The transmission facilities in Iraq and Afghanistan were installed within recent years, so they put in DTT whilst setting it up, whereas the Falklands was setup before then, and as I understand it at this moment in time they don't have any intentions of upgrading previously installed equipment.

Somehow considering events over the past few years in that area of the world, i find it hard to think that they'd have DTT facillites!

Only the forces broadcasts are in DTT, normal ones are still in analogue. I also wouldn't be surprised if the DTT multiplex is a rebroadcast of the channels on their satellite transponder.

Just thinking...

If after DSO channels are broadcasting on new muxes, would C4 for example be able to offer Film4 instead of Film4+1 on the new PSB mux, enabling all Freeview viewers to receive it, rather than just those who can get Mux D (or the new commercial mux).

They could then put Film4+1 on the new commercial mux - and with the analogue signal switched off, in theory at least the issues of picture quality shouldn't really be a problem - as that's the main reason they haven't switched Film4 and Film4+1 already.

I know recently there has been a bit in the news about those in Whitehaven being unable to receive Film4, with C4 stating they will be able to get Film4+1 at least after DSO - so that implies that's sticking around at least.
