I'm sorry but this isn't new. I've read about this practice being used particularly for crowd shots before, surpassed those broadcasters aren't wise to it.

I do disagree with it though, when it's as misleading as in the case mentioned.

Misleading? Oh please. This isn't some mass deception designed to deliberately mislead and misdirect, nor is it a BBC1 Queen Documentary Trailer incident, it's the random insertion of random images to window dress the main event. Crowd shots are largely irrelevant and ignored by the viewing media unless it's something out of the ordinary (like the Swedish women kissing at World Cup 2006 or the woman picking her nose during the CL final). During Euro2012 it seemed the fashion to focus on pretty young women or women with babies. Yawn. Who, watching that match, cares? All they care about is the action ON the field.

Misleading?

The implication was she was so upset at Germany going down with a good 60 minutes left. It was an edit that didn't really make any sense to the viewer. The shot was a moment of joy and pride that was deliberately kept back and used show a moment of pain, at which time the pain wouldn't have been that bad.

It made the woman look stupid, and told the audience an incorrect story. Having said that I think being overcome with pride that you cry over a national anthem is pretty stupid.

I don't mind them using a shot gained of the crowd a couple of minutes prior and then shown as live.

I expect she WAS upset at her team going behind in a major tournament semi final.

What planet do you live on? No-one really cares! The "viewer" is a football fan, interested in football, not some random German bird's tear ducts!

Well yeah you would think that, being English. When all you've got to get excited over is some second-hand dirge about a non-specific deity bailing out some unelected spongers, then your perspective is bound to be skewed.

But that wasn't footage of her being upset.

The producers in this case obviously aren't thinking in that way.

People don't choose were they are born, it's a stroke of luck. I don't see how anyone could have a great level of pride in that. It's OK to be a bit nationalistic, but to the level it brings a tear to your eye is just mental.

Make your mind up.....

Footage of the crowd being jovial from 2 minutes before isn't misleading and that's what I don't mind. Footage from half an hour earlier of a moment of pride being put into a context of heartache. She was being misrepresented.

But in the grand scheme of things, do I think it really matters? No.
