Like, I assume, most people I am watching the final on BBC One and ITV1 at the same time (with the CBBC commentary at the moment). How come ITV's picture is so far behind the BBC picture? Even if I watch BBC One HD and ITV 1 SD, the BBC picture is still ahead of the ITV picture. Where is the delay coming from?

ITV1HD is behind BBC1 but still about 5 seconds ahead of ITV1SD which in itself is quite odd. There is only usually a delay of about 2-3 seconds and its usually the other way if I'm not mistaken. I'm also finding that the ITV1HD picture is slightly clearer than the BBC1HD picture which isn't usually the case?

Which plaform are you watching on, and which region are you in?

BBC coverage far superior to that of ITV. Why did ITV not go to Kiev foe the final, they're 700 odd kilometers away from the action in Warsaw. People complained at the start of the tournament about BBC not being on location but at least their in the stadium at the final.

I'd imagine to as joint rights holders they possibly only get one studio between them so couldn't both be there anyway.

I wonder how many suitable spaces these stadium have. We only ever see the one used at Old Trafford, but broadcasters are not going to use a second best studio, so we wouldn't see any others.

Germany's ARD and ZDF used to, maybe still do, jointly share facilites at such events, though they were always grown up enough not to duplicate the finals.

I do know that at Euro 2004 BBC and ITV shared interview camera setups and cabling at some venues

Suspect ITV pictures are going via Poland so an extra hop - which explains why they are behind the BBC which I assume is a single hop (or it could be a satellite vs fibre issue)

Not sure about the ITV1 SD vs ITV1 HD delay - could be they add some delay to some ITV feeds to aid statmuxing... Which region are you in?

Also there are multiple ITV1 HD regions - in London BBC One HD looks better than ITV1 HD (fewer artefacts on motion and more detail generally)

ITV's studio is a much nicer bit of TV production though - very reminiscent of previous BBC location studios... Even if it is in the wrong place for the final.

That was my first thought but then again I'm sure all broadcasts whether from Ukraine or Poland have to go through the IBC in Poland anyway.

All of PSB2 mux (aka ITV/4) undergoes a recode in the STV and UTV regions (to locally insert 'ITV1' ) so the SD versions of ITV/4 do lag behind their HD counterparts on DTT in those regions, I'm not sure about the Leeds playout regions, might be the same for them too?

Ah - hadn't realised it was a common IBC for both countries. However ITV's studio isn't at the IBC is it? If they are routing the match through a scanner at their studio location, then that might introduce an extra hop that the BBC don't have? (IBC -> Studio Site -> ITV London)

Or it could be that the BBC have a fibre route to the UK and ITV are satellite? (Or compression delay involved in routing ITV1 HD distribution and playout?)

Nice end credit sequence for BBC Euro 2012, though the names were on screen for ridiculously short periods.

I did notice the use of 'LSM' Operators, rather than the usual EVS, which is of course a brand name. First time I've seen it not used in credits though ?
