It's a shame they're not using one of the new style BBC Sport on-location desks it would have worked well with Euro 2012 logo at the front. Instead of that one they've been using for about 10 years now.

Having England branded walls simply means they'll need double the amount of walls printed, although I'm sure that only costs a pittance compared to the entire cost of the operation.

Can't see the 3D graphics being used tonight, although I'm sure it's technically possible.

If you mean the 'in studio' virtual 3D stuff they've been using in Salford that allows team formations to be keyed foreground, and tracked in 3D with camera moves, then it would be pretty tricky.

The Salford studio uses some quite complex camera tracking technology (I think they're using the system with targets mounted on each virtual camera, and a bunch of non-broadcast tracking cameras mounted around the edge of the studio) which would be tricky to set-up quickly on an OB location (and possibly cost prohibitive). There are alternative systems - but with similar cost issues.

What a shame they only seem to have brought one microphone, and and left it under the desk.

The studio sound is diabolical !

And Jurgen Klinnsman sounds like he's in a lavatory cubicle.

I think it took BBC 12mins to get a "news will follow shortly" caption

Other channels covering the penalties: BBC News Channel, Sports Tonight/Primetime and Sky News.

BBC News are just showing the BBC One feed. It would be better if they did their own coverage. They have Ian Palmer in a pub in Battersea so I don't know why they aren't using him.

Makes a nice change - the BBC often over state such things during live sporting events.

As a Welshman though this moment isn't quite as satisfyting as usual considering for once the English media went into the tournament knowing they didn't really have a chance, so a refreshing change this tournament for their performances to be judge on the football, not on the unwarranted hype.

And we're on the plane home.

What a surprise!

What would be the point of that? If they have the ability to show the coverage why not just show it, what's the point of throwing to a bloke in a pub?

It annoys the heck out of me when the news channels feel the need to cover an event which is on a free to air channel.... their viewers aren't interested, that's why their watching a different channel to the one the match is on!

I wasn't convinced, in the moments leading up to the penalty shoot outs, that Lineker and Co realised their mics were still on air ?

News values, it clearly is a newsworthy event and should be covered accordingly by News outlets. The News Agenda should NOT be skewed simply because the event is being covered elsewhere.
