This might give us some clue as to what the BBC's presentation and in particular the opening titles will be like.

Yes, they've certainly produced a high quality trail. First aired immediately after the Eurovision Song Contest I believe.

Usually with the UEFA tournaments, all broadcasters take the host broadcaster graphics, which *don't* include a score bar on screen.

So every ten minutes you'll get a score lower third, and it won't look like the score bar in the top left hand corner of the screen. The best example of how to do it well was ITV's in 2004. They altered their own graphics to look highly similar to the host broadcasters...it made for a better looking programme.

The BBC, in contrast, used their big square blocks for their scoreboard, and it really didn't fit well together at all. I expect it will be similar this time.

With FIFA events (the World Cup) the BBC often opt out of the host broadcaster graphics.

There has however been a change recently. The Europa League (UEFA) has been providing an onscreen score bar as well as everything else...mainly because everything comes out of the clock, including lower thirds.

At the bottom of the original video, the creator of the set says this:

Quote:
Each official broadcast rights holder will be supplied with opening, closing and break bumper sequences as well as on-screen match graphics to use in the tournament itself.

So perhaps the BBC will be given a set of graphics to fire in whenever they see fit.

I don't like the Europa League package at all and it annoys me everything is in the let hand corner. It seems a waste not to use other space. I see ITV have started to do this to an extent with their England coverage.

I think that's happened for most World Cup and Euros for a while. It's just a question of whether they choose to use them.

RTÉ always adjust their package to mirror the host layout which always looks uniform and nice. The intro that was shown above will most likely be used by RTÉ but not by ITV or BBC.
There's already been an example of how RTÉ will be using the official package here, watch the screen wipe from the titles into the 'press conference' with "Giovanni Trappatoni" and his translator "Manuela Spinelli".

A full article on how RTÉ will be covering the tournament can be found here.

Not quite always (and especially not if the host broadcaster graphics are not tournament specific, but just the host broadcaster's normal graphics), but in the case they almost certainly will be. More accurate to say that where there's a standard graphics/presentation package provided for a sporting event, RTÉ will normally take it in its entirety.

That's an Apres Match skit, of course, rather than an example of actual RTÉ coverage!!!!

Re the BBC's trailer, If that trailer is the BBC's title sequence, it would be quite nice!. I just think that the days when the BBC and ITV will continue to be able to get away with opting out of the generic packages to do their own thing are probably on their way out and probably only tolerated because of how big a broadcaster the BBC is. UEFA in particular have become branding obsessed and probably won't tolerate the BBC opting out of the tournament's branding for much longer.

But UEFA have been branded obsessed for years. I'm sure UEFA would rather except the highest bid than the have their branding all other programme. Although I'm sure the BBC would rather have the rights with UEFA branding than without.

Perhaps there is argument both broadcasters put forward, is that they need ways to differentiate their coverage. As it's two major free to air broadcasters offering the same product.

That trail is using the official music I've seen it on Al Jazerra Sport as well, although the music ends just before the final sequence Crying or Very sad which is a bit of a shame really.

As you might expect the graphics feature on the Euro 2012 video games, and it appears there is an official scorebar which could work quite well with a BBC or ITV logo added.

Commnetary is provided by Clive Tyldesley and Andy Townsend.

Is that the Avago music, I hear at the start?

It sounds like the Avago theme but remixed slightly. Why on earth would they use something similar to that theme? Haha

You can hear it a bit more clearly at the start of this video...

It is only really that small part at the beginning that sounds like the Avago theme, sadly.

It is from this song...

And for those TV Forum members who have forgotten how the Avago theme sounded (audio only)...

I can only imagine that Oceana got 12 matches on Mega Jackpot back in the day and this is her tribute to Avago and especially Charlotte Gane. That's the only explanation I can think of anyway.

Seemingly the BBC's coverage is being billed as Euro 2012 Live and Euro 2012: Highlights in Radio Times, rather than using the Match of the Day branding which has been the case for World Cups and European Championships since 2000.

Not that there was ever any point in using the Match of the Day branding anyway, or even using the Grandstand branding in years gone by.
