Apologies in advance as I've probably missed this already but has any reason been given for the BBC not presenting on location?

I think it's cost. Although it's debatable how big the savings will be as Jake Humphrey and a pundit seem to be at most of the live games. They're sending Alan Shearer back to Salford after 2 days.

I think it's more about appearing to save money, to stop an inevitable moan in the Daily Mail. They will be at the venues from the quarter finals onward if England and Ireland get that far.

Although it would be better if they were in the Poland or at the games, they've really made good use of the Salford studio IMO.

I've assumed the reason was due to cost. If England progress to the quarters then I believe they are going to present on location -otherwise I suspect coverage will continue from Salford. Though would they want both the semi-final and final to be on location?

I'm pretty sure they did the games after England got knocked of World Cup 2002 from the grounds despite presenting the opening round from London.

Lineker can present just as effectively from Salford as he can from the IBC at a tournament with venues across two countries.

ITV set in a café now. Again nice scenery.

They certainly seem to be making the most out of the fact that they are there, using many different presentation points from that square in Warsaw. It certainly captures more of the atmosphere of the event.

I take it after the quarter-finals, ITV's live coverage would come to an end as the BBC have both the semis and the final. They are making use of the city, so kudos to them.

Martinez is a much better pundit then Redknapp.

Just like how news presenters go out to do the broadcast from the scenes of major news events, it gives a better atmonsphere of being at the heart of the action when they are actually in the country.

Gary sat in Salford makes the Euros like a regular edition of Match of the Day. They could have at least changed the set a bit.

BBC have both the semis live, but ITV & BBC both screen the final. Although I expect both would probably broadcast from the stadium ?

They did, different lighting, different desk, screens at a different angles.

Short of building a whole new set, which wasn't needed IMO opinion as they have a good set, there wasn't much else they could do.

Yes, but it's what perception it gives the viewers. I'd argue the ITV coverage would make the viewers feel closer to the tournament atmosphere.

Well Roger Mosey once said of the BBC : "We believe in being at the heart of host cities, and our audiences have come to expect 'landmark' shots like the Eiffel Tower in World Cup 1998 and the Brandenburg Gate in 2006"

But I expect the NAO Audit referred to in this report is partly why we see the BBC sat in Salford :

Of course the Daily Mail will next be asking whether the BBC is paying for Gary Lineker's daily commute to Salford ?

I would agree that the coverage isn't any less comprehensive because they're in Salford but it does lose some of the competition atmosphere.

I suppose after the Jubilee coverage, having "DOZENS OF PRESENTERS PAID THOUSANDS IN STALIN STATE" in the Daily Mail isn't what's needed - but I would stick two fingers up to that anyway and just have all presentation from where it's actually happening. ITV's coverage feels much closer to the action as a result.

There's quite a few differences if you compare the two different sets:

Is the set in it's normal studio, and is it staying up for the duration of the Euro's?

Has any one else noticed the rubbish video & audio quality of the ITV coverage and the crowd noise has been suppressed,?
