Two Way TV goes into administration

Interactive digital TV provider Two Way TV has gone into administration - leaving ITV with a headache.
ITV's roll-out of interactive TV services around shows such as "Pop Idol" and "The Premiership" is
largely reliant on expertise developed at Two Way TV. The company was handed the contract to
overhaul ITV's interactive services earlier this year after Carlton Active was closed down.

Jean de Fougerolles, Two Way TV's CEO, reportedly said he was confident that
the firm would emerge stronger and continue to serve its existing clients.

Wow - quite a shock.
IIRC, didn't they power Big Brother's interactive stuff? I seem to remember it having their own section on the telewest bill Razz

Not a shock at all. I (apparently) almost got offered a job there about 3 years ago, but then came Christmas and in January, redundancies due to cost-cutting. The problem then was that they were funded by NTL with a view to producing lots of interactive features. However the technology was delayed and the set-top boxes arrived late and they were in limbo for a while.

I think part of the problem is that they were ahead of their time when they originally started (they were formed by Granada in the early 90's - a long time before digital TV) but have somewhat missed the boat now - Sky and others have overtaken them.

Hope they survive the administration and fulfill their potential

I can remember TWTV offering an interactive service over analogue TV around 1997. They had it on Display in Dixons (I tried it once) and I remember a TV ad for it where the family was playing along with Family Fotuunes using it.

Their offerings on NTL wern't bad considering the limit in software which was available at the time, but the problem was that the games were all £1 each and frankly I never paid once, I don't mean to sound tight arsed but I don't think many people would either. Their BB interactive wasn't bad either but that was all money making, I haven't visited Two Way TV on NTL in a while, but when I last checked there was nothing really worth bragging about. But this news comes of no suprise to me and they will probably fall into bankrupcy. Plus for a while they did have a service on ITV Digital, but like that service it collapsed.

It has to be said - somebody made a silly decision when they closed down Carlton interactive and sold off all the equipment!

Two Way power a lot of the interactive content on C4 and Challenge interactive services on Sky. They also had a branded slot in the short-lived BrightBlue service (which closed when parent company Energis went under).
