BUSY BEE's recent work seems to be a steady improvement over their previous stuff. The BBCs 1 and 2 idents are some of the best idents I've ever seen on BBC Television.

Red Bee didn't do BBC2, that was AMV

These new idents are head and shoulders above the other BBC1 idents which look a bit cheap by comparison. Mission Control has relaced Hippos as my favourite and is up there with some of Channel 4's idents like Dubai and Tokyo on the epic scale.

AMV did the pitch and came up with the idea, but they got Red Bee to produce them.

Nobody else seems to have commented that the ident featuring modern apartments, with the circle being made up of small squares of light (I dunno what that ident's called) is not on the menu on the above webpages. Has that one now been withdrawn from use? Confused

EDIT: Ditto for the football ident too! Only just realised. Embarassed

Mmm, and Football has also been taken away from the list to make way for the 2 others - interesting!

Often continuity (sp?) announcers finish what they were saying about 10 seconds before the '4' fixes together. So I am worried this will happen to these idents as well. Although these are definately the very very best of the bunch of BBC 1 idents and I am starting to believe it was good fate that forced the British Broadcasting Corporation to get rid of the blue and black mechanical globe (simple yet so fine). I hope they get more idents like these out soon!

It will be a shame if the football one is gone, it was definately one of the best even if it looked the most faked! I'd rather they got rid of the ringaroses (ie: those b*stering brats!) because it is to ITV like.

I say they've still got a way to go before they can get on C4's level.

4 has the advantage of an incredibly well-known and strong numeric symbol designed to be used as it was all the way back at the channel's launch. BBC 1's symbol is the Circle, but it's not a definite circle that you can draw on a piece of paper and say "that's how it looks', and IMO that's what separates it from the '4' and stops it from being that much stronger.

There's been many a time where I've spotted a new C4 symbol and thought 'wow' - that hasn't really happened with BBC 1, even though I feel they are aiming for that sort of response with the graphics trickery (rather than take the route of displaying stunning british locations like the Balloon and, to an extent, the Dancers, did, as one of the core aspects).

BBC1 still doesn't have a logo the 'BBC One' is the logo. And when you have a logo you normally manipulate that in different ways. If you say the logo is a circle then I'll ask you to draw a circle on a piece of paper and show it to people. They'll say 'it's a circle' and not 'oh that's BBC1'

Channel 4 has the '4' BBC2 has the '2' a circle isn't enough of a symbol to me personally. As you say these new BBC1 idents are closer to the Channel 4 wow factor but not having a recognisable logo means they fall a little short.

They should be adding to the set rather than dropping some of them and if anything Petals should go as it's so similar to Magic Forest.

I noticed that too but I wouldn't read too much into it if I were you. Just not enough space at present to feature them on the menu, hopefully they'll reorganise it soon (maybe in rows of 3s rather than 2s.

AMV were in charge of the creative design and Red Bee was in charge of production.

If 'Petals' is the one with the children in it then that is the one I meant!
