On the ball as ever, TV & Radio Bits have updated the BBC One ident section.
Extremely impressed by these new additions; RED BEE are proving they aren't completely worthless after all.

Part of the music on the 'Forest' ident sounds very like the end part of the music on the 2006 Christmas logo (to this ear anyway).

Magic Forest did look good on-screen, and while I can't say the direction these idents are heading in is quite to my personal preference (probably down to these being quite 'radical' for standard ones - I feel as if we are further heading away from traditional symbols) they have actually been very nicely done given the concepts!

I love the 'Magical Forest' ident, but the'Mission Control' ident will need to grow on me.
I do agree that these two new idents outshine the other idents in the current set and IMO sit alongside the current Ch.4 idents for quality.

I say they've still got a way to go before they can get on C4's level.
4 has the advantage of an incredibly well-known and strong numeric symbol designed to be used as it was all the way back at the channel's launch. BBC 1's symbol is the Circle, but it's not a definite circle that you can draw on a piece of paper and say "that's how it looks', and IMO that's what separates it from the '4' and stops it from being that much stronger.
There's been many a time where I've spotted a new C4 symbol and thought 'wow' - that hasn't really happened with BBC 1, even though I feel they are aiming for that sort of response with the graphics trickery (rather than take the route of displaying stunning british locations like the Balloon and, to an extent, the Dancers, did, as one of the core aspects).

No way, that's what Kites and Moon idents are for, Kites for 1, 6 & weekend/public holidays - morning/afternoon & Moon for 10, News 24 & weekend/public holidays evening .
And also to put my 2cents in, I like Mission Control better than forest, I especially like when the robot comes out, draws the circle then does the beeps when the announcer is introducting the next program.

Anybody think that one of them may be used before the news now? I'm fed up of Kites at every news junction!

Rats, missed the first playout of both of them. Either way, they undoubtedly look stunning in full-screen.
BUSY BEE's recent work seems to be a steady improvement over their previous stuff. The BBCs 1 and 2 idents are some of the best idents I've ever seen on BBC Television. Even the work they did for the Discovery Channel is starting to grow on me... just don't let Michael Grade tell them what to do or they will, in the words of Alan Sugar, 'c**k it up royal'.
