Any idea about when the new BBC2 idents will appear? But well done for being so on the ball with BBC1's idents.

The 2007 page has been written and is almost ready. I'm just waiting for the couple I'm still missing; trust my DVD-RAM to pack up right now!

You'd better be joking.

After spending £6 million on these idents I very much doubt anybody is thinking of replacing them any time soon. The rhythm and movement (note spelling) idents got much more negative feedback than the circles but still lasted 4.5 years - and they didn't cost as much as the circles.

To conclude, they're less than a year old and I can see it will at least another three years before they even contemplate replacing them, and as to what it will be, it is impossible to predict as we don't know where television will be by then.

Rolling Eyes *RANT OVER* Rolling Eyes

You know, it's probably going to be on the air for longer than three years, maybe five, six, with new batch every six months or so....

The football idents primary used to introuduce news and programme such as Panorama, and football matches, since it would be appropriate.

I hope so if the others turn out to be as good as the two newest ones. The balloons were ditched just as they were getting really inventive and not just flying over parts of the country. I loved Bungee.

I think the circle idents could get really good over time.

I thought it was £2 million.

BTW - the Red Dwarf Night idents are available "clean" in compiled form on the Red Dwarf V DVD.

Has anyone noticed just how circular the space ident is? Every shot seems to have a circle of some sort in it, from the opening shot to the planet, the circles on the wall of the control room, the parachute, glowing circular thing in the control room, the camera, the craters - circles everywhere! I thought at first that this ident was a bit odd because the clip is less related to the fomation at the end than in the other idents which show the parts of the circle coming together, but the clip in this one does relate to the circle in that the control room controls it and the circles on the wall and on the screen appear to be a plan of the camera's circular course - very clever!

By 'compiled' I take it you mean the way they segue into one another...

IIRC one of the fan-submitted trails in the same section contained a BBC 2 Pancake sting as well.

Forest was seen again into Phenomenon, on Network (and presumably Wales).

I've saved both of them to disc, I think I like them because they seem like mini films (of course they are short films but you get what I mean).

Well I'm not going to put my hand in my pocket for a DVD which otherwise doesn't interest me, but if you'd like to send them you are most welcome to do so of course.

Apologies if it's a double posting, but gumf from the BBC About page:

Quote:
Is there a meaning behind the idents?
The idents all show magical things happening when people come together. The idea was born out of BBC One’s role as the nation’s most popular channel, bringing people together for a large, diverse output. The circle symbol was chosen both as being emblematic of togetherness, and also as a subtle nod to BBC One’s own heritage.

There's a mention some pages back about BBC 1 not having as strong a symbol as Channel 4 and BBC2.

So what was so wrong with this one? It was used for all sorts of imagery stings (sails, hedges etc). It certainly stuck in my mind. Clear and recognisable, why can't the BBC go retro and bring that back?
