Twitter... over teletext!?

View your timeline as proper teletext pages via a Raspberry Pi (January 2018)

This site closed in March 2021 and is now a read-only archive

I mentioned this a few days ago on the forum and I finally went and did it over the weekend.

It works by reading your timeline and saving a teletext data file that is compatible with the VBIT2 system by Peter Kwan and raspi-teletext. You actually view this by pushing your teletext button, this isn’t emulation or video output that looks like teletext. Edit: as in this is injected into the VBI!

Have a play if you like, it’s fairly stable and I’ve not had any crashes. Suggest extra features too if you like.

This is completely useless but very cool and it was fun to work on.

Some more info:

You’ll need a Raspberry Pi, a compatible TRRS-to-composite cable (can be purchased from The Pi Hut and other outlets - the pin wiring isn’t always the same if you use cables from camcorders and the like), and to set up a Twitter app with your account to get your access tokens.

It’s written in Python and I plan to make it a bit more professional with error checking and support for more options, maybe sub pages.

Edit: and support for longer tweets Very Happy

This has been picked up by the official Raspberry Pi twitter account and I posted it on Reddit. I made sure to mention @TVForum Wink
