TVS - Family channel 1993

Family channel - FOX 1997 for $1.9 billion.

FOX - Disney ;
acquired the Fox Family Channel in 2001 for $5 Billion and named it ABC Family.

and all because of this!

ah yes: The Family Channel the people who owned TVS programmes from 1993 till when ever there sold the company to Disney for a couple of Billion pounds

I thought Fox owned Family Channel and their catalogue for a while before selling to ABC (before Disney owned ABC!!!) - does this make even more confusion!!!

So that explains the complexity with TVS' archive. Shame Meridian didn't think to buy the archive from TFC years ago

Meridian should have brought it from TVS!

I wonder what it would have been like if TVS never brought that dam US company.

Probably would have been bought up by Carlton & renamed :

Carlton Broadcasting in the TVS Television region Wink

I've always wondered how different it would have been had Thames & TVS survived truth is we'll never know but it probably wouldn't be much different to now, except if Thames was still bought out like today the ITV network would have been owned by a foreign company several years back

I think the plan was for TVS to be a strong Independent Producer, but alas that wasn't to be, the Southampton studios and the News archives were sold to Meridian everything else was kept by TVS themselves, but due to the lack of money they had they didn't get to make any Programmes on ITV after 1993, as everything else was picked up by Scottish (Enterprises), Meridian or The Media Merchants.

Although I'm rather surprised Action Time (ITV) didn't get the rights to TVS-era Catchphrase.

why didn't another ITV buy up TVS?

Everything of value had been taken, ie Art Attack went to the Media Merchants, some programmes were made for Scottish Enterprises and the Ruth Rendell mysteries were also bought as well.

Other than that I would have thought they wouldn't be anything of much interest left. Frankly I could hardly imagine TVS-era Catchphrases making any broadcaster alot of money now.

They do and that's it, no-one else is interested, everything else has multi channel appeal from ITV or from International broadcasters for repeats and licences to the formats, eg Art Attack.

ITV would have made a mint if there got hold of MTM stuff

I think Disney should sell it Challenge!

I didn't realise that Paul O' Grady is keeping track of TV archives... what did he actually say? Are you sure this wasn't just a throw away comment?

Not sure (as said probs regional mainly), but ITV Yorkshire have Southern programmes, TVS, ATV and Central stuff there now. (ATV certainly is national stuff like Crossroads.)

Southern's programme archive is owne by an Australian company called Southern Star and not by ITV.

Southern's news archive was sold to TVS and then to Meridian
