Most of the archive is stored at Maidstone.

and owned by Disney why wont ITV by there catalogue?

Disney don't have the paper work and very little proof that they own the material. Disney probably don't even realise they do have it. They probably could prove ownership but it would be costly to do so for what is in reality a few programmes that aren't going to bring them much money.

As mentioned some programmes are in ITV's archive in Yorkshire (I'd imagine mostly regional stuff), some are in Maidstone, some are in the Wessex Film Archive and goodness knows how many other places. Children's programmes quite possibly went to Scottish TV.

Not sure (as said probs regional mainly), but ITV Yorkshire have Southern programmes, TVS, ATV and Central stuff there now. (ATV certainly is national stuff like Crossroads.)

I can't believe anything important would be lost. Although this is ITV who nearly threw all of ATV and Central's photograph collection going back to 1955 in a skip, and the same company that has binned a load of stuff in 2005 from the Tyne Tees archive (not programmes.)

So.. anything is possible. As Bruce Gyngell said a decade ago, television is a "cultural asset" in danger of being "crushed by bean counters" and I think certainly the heritage of ITV isn't - other than the lucrative programmes in the archive - being cared for well.

When Central's Lenton Lane closed, we were allowed to grab stuff from the place 'to save it' as the Carlton bosses were concerned over what was going to happen to some items. And in the Broad Street studios, as I've said before I found a skip full of awards Central had won, which had been ditched.

Oh there were film cans and all kinds in the basement at Broad Street. It was like a little TV time capsule.

Well there were audio reels, and the machines to play them, but I have no idea what was on them.

I wonder if any gameshows are on them:

the only reason why Disney own ( may own them) is all because of MTM,.

I dare say apart from

UK fraggle rock : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOHA2U7t2kg
catchphrase
no73/motormouth
what else would people want from old TVS?

most kids went to STV

What's Up Doc was never really a TVS series, Scottish TV used TVS staff etc for the first few months as they were taking on the children's dept. from 1993.

As for TVS Catchphrase - Maidstone probably.

I do wonder if the TVS archive is actually heading for a skip if a broadcast quality clip (I think) of NO73 was shown with a Disney credit?

So in other words because Disney can't be bothered to go to the effort to see if they own it or not they're going to skip it?

It's Doctor Who The Patrick Troughton Years all over again (only 6 of his adventures remain complete)

In 2007 things like this shouldn't be happening, but this is ITV we're talking about so they don't give a sh*te, just be thankful that Thames' archive is safe.
