Yes because they were still an asset of the company and it would have affected the value of the company had they shifted any of the library.

The master tapes of the TVS gameshow Inn Quiz are in the safekeeping of the Wessex Film and Sound Archive according to UK Game Shows.

It might be worthwhile contacting the Wessex Film and Sound Archive to find out if they have any other TVS tapes.

I have never watched Inn Quiz or even knew that it existed until today.

Or just look on their online catalogue:
http://calm.hants.gov.uk/advanced.aspx?src=CalmView.Catalog

they have some stuff, mainly corporate videos/material, some regional programmes, bit of sport and one of the telethons.
They not necessarily masters though, often libraries will have copies of things that might be of use. I'd imagine that they'll be in a more useful format than any TVS would have used

There is one person that might know all the answers: Nigel Pickard

Quote:
When TVS lost its ITV contract, he moved to Scottish TV to be controller of entertainment and drama features,

In 1994 he became Director of Programmes, and subsequently General Manager, of The Family Channel in the UK, and he was at the forefront of the growth of multi-channel television in Britain. As Vice President, Production for Flextech he steered the development and launch of Challenge in 1997 and was responsible for all original production for the bouquet of Flextech channels including TCC, Bravo, Trouble, Living and Challenge.

I would highly recommend someone upstanding asks.

Remember that ITV Gameshow documentry that aired a few years back- it had some broadcast quality clips of TVS Catchphrase in it, so someone must know where the tapes are and was able to get them to use in that programme.

Multiple possibilities. The clips of TVS Catchphrase could just as easily have come from working copies (used by Challenge?) rather than the master tapes. Another alternative is that the clips came from the master tapes but the TVS archive was split up years ago, so the holder of them does not hold the tapes for many other TVS programmes.

The fact that the Inn Quiz master tapes are held by the Wessex Film and Sound Archive (although I haven't confirmed it yet) means that master tapes from the TVS archive could be here there and everywhere.

I'm now wondering where the tapes are for Worldwise which was shown on CITV...

Inn Quiz was a local programme so may not have been included in the archive. In fact I'm pretty sure Meridian acquired non-network programmes.

I think you ought to check their catalogue, think you'll be disappointed.... not even any Inn Quiz!

It's fairly common for ITV and BBC regional centres to donate material to regional archives, the Media Archive for Central England has a lot of the older ATV and Central archive. Not network programmes of course.

I'm vaguely aware that Meridian acquired local current affairs programmes but did they really acquire EVERY non-network programme? These included coverage of prominent local events, such as Tall Ships' Race, and a few children's programmes, such as Radio - a drama set in a radio station. Was The Real World networked or was it only shown locally?

What about documentaries produced for C4?

I have already checked the online catalogue but past experience has told me not to automatically trust online catalogues. Archives and museums often have other stuff either not yet catalogued or not listed in public catalogues.

I can guess the route from archive to screen with that one.

Catchphrase has a lot of connections to Action Time.
One deeply suspects that all editions of Catchphrase (even the TVS ones) were brought by Action Time, and then Action Time was brought by Carlton - so, therefore now sitting around in the ITV Archive in Leeds.

Doubt it, because how did Family catchphrase come about? I bet ITV would be spinning the TVS catchphrase off to Challenge.

If that is true then it highlights how fragmented the TVS archive is. For all anybody knows, the TVS archive could be in 101 different places today.
