I've just returned from a weekend with my parents in Ayrshire and while there was listening to the radio. I heard the news and thought, "That sounds familiar." The title music for the radio news was the same as that for "Meridian Tonight".

Does this happen much or is this the only example? If it does, how does it happen?

It's library music.

Just don't ask anyone to upload any MP3s Rolling Eyes

The Meridian Tonight music has been used by LBC radio in the past.

There's also that radio station in America which uses the same theme as ITV News before their News.

The itv news theme of now, the version of recent years, or just the general version of the tune?

The general version, someone put up an MP3 of it and it went in the style of the ITV Evening News in 1999, with the titles then the bongs if you know what I mean.

CKFM (an RSL in Camborne and Redruth which broadcast during Easter) used the 1993 Meridian ident music to introduce their news.
