I got my WinTV tuner and really like it, and whilst the software with it (WinTV 2000) is very good, it's a wee bit flaky. Does anyone else use any 3rd-party software which they think is superior?

dscaler is quite a good piece of software, as it deinterlaces the picture, along with many other things, which wintv 2000 doesnt do well.

doesnt record video though, it leaves that to virtual dub

Thanks for the link, but I guess it would be typical for it not to work with my USB tuner.

why say such foul language? most tv programs do not support USB tuners anyway - especially if its freeware - its takes too long for the developers to work on it.

It was meant sarcastically - I apologise.
It's just that WinTV crashes whenever I go to my Start Menu...a little useless if you actually want to use it for anything.
I went for the USB option simply because PCI wasn't going to be practical enough.

don't worry - its okay...

I'm not sure if these support USB - but look on google for Intervideo WinDVR 3 and PowerVCR II - they are probably the best around. Recording and picture quality is great. Personally I use DScaler for images and WinDVR 3 for recording.
