I've heard that to watch the programmes in this bbc4 strand minus commentaries, you have to press red. Is this true? Wouldn't it make more sense the other way around?

Depends really - the whole point is that the programme will be discussed, but I'd have thought that could be done in a 10 minute segment after each one rather than prattling through the entire show. It could end up being just like a DVD commentary! Dunno whether to watch the clean version or the commentary because I'd like to hear what they have to say. (they're repeated after midnight though)

Best bit is the fact that BBC4 will be showing Footballers' Wives. I never thought I'd see that, nor that ITV would agree to it!

Well, only 20mins to find out I suppose. I just hope they give us enough time to set up how we watch everything (minus commentary if there is one, and in proper 4:3 if it's not cropped Smile ) It was my mate who told me about the commentary on the phone earlier, and he said something about a box with the commentators in it being displayed.

It's either screenjunk or criticts! WHY?

Not necessarily a bad thing, in my opinion - after all do you really want to see Phyllis Digby Morton uninterrupted?

Very impressed so far. If there was ever a way of proving there was never a 'golden age' of television, this is probably it...

What a fantastic insight though into past TV.

I'm now watching Double Your Money with Hughie Green (ITV's first ever gameshow). Its funny that Hughie Green seems to me a watered down version of Michael Barrymore. Confused Laughing

If you were watching without the commentary, they were showing full BBC interludes inbetween programmes!

The ones shown were -

Potters' Wheel (full)
Ploughmen (full)
London to Brighton in four minutes (a minutes worth!)

Arse! I pressed me red button and that nasty DOG appeared at the top... missed out on those. Great programme actually, how sexist was your average 1950's man, LOL!

It's a ident fest as well with the BBC bat wings & breakdown caption and ATV London ident. Can't wait for tomorrow.

I even got a link to my website on the BBC Four ,Trial on TV website, well impressed LOL!

Hehe, well done Jase!

I'm watching the repeate run and grabbing some DV caps as I go right now.

If you use Freeview channel 702, you don't get a press red, or commentators, but you do get the DOG. There is no DOG on the commentated version though, so why bother? Plus, we don't need to know how to get back to the commentary all the time, so they could do without the message at the bottom most of the time, and just pop it up at selected moments.

The 'Can You Tell Me?' programme was quite a laugh!

Kind of reminded of Bob Monkhouse quite a lot I thought. Can't quite believe the question about the provinces of Canada.
