The JVC blank tapes are excellent.

Also I do remember those BBC blank tapes in Poundland, I never brought any!

The JVC SX ones, even though they are 'standard' they are very good, got some that are over 5 years old now and the quality is still the same, very reliable. Plus Morrisons sell them for about 90p for an E-180, which was 10p/20p less than 5 years ago.

We have some BBC Tapes somewhere, they were okay, but I've got some from 1998 (with the pre-97 logo on) that have started to see the quality decrease in the last couple of years, yet the tape in question doesn't have a case.

TDK's are quite good based from experience, I've got some from 1997, that have The Simpsons, taped in LP from Sky One and the quality is still at a good standard, which is surprising. I also have aload of them from the past few years, where again the quality has remained superb.

But I think one of the best and most reliable tapes I've got are Memorex ones, the ones from the late 1980's, that are heavier than most of other blank tapes, got stuff from years ago (that era and later on) again, the quality hasn't reduced, even though they haven't been kept in a case.

Don't know what's happened to Scotch, I presume 3M have ceased production, I've seen the cleaning tapes around, but not the normal ones.

My BASF chromdixoxid tapes from the mid 80's = best build quality, best picture quality after 20 years.

Whereas my tapes from the 90's or so look and sound terrible, both have had same storage conditions!
