For all those with fond memories of Pebble Mill, that's rather a sad sight . . .

not necessarily. why is everybody trying to correct me when they dont even live here!?

Let's take this out of context for a minute. What you're saying is a bit like saying The Trafford Centre is in Salford. Now, everyone knows The Trafford Centre is in Trafford, and it's the same with Coronation Street (see fig.1).

Now I can correct you because I live in Manchester myself, I'm not going to reveal just where though.

Totally agree with you - how it fits with value for money is beyond me. They are going to have to build something similar in Manchester if they go through with the relocation of departments.

That map dosent mean anything. And as for BBC Manchester, that is on Oxford Road in Manchester. Now some things say Granada is in Manchester but geographically, it is in Salford. Trafford Centre is in Trafford, its not like saying thats in Salford at all! Trafford is in the centre of Trafford.

It's obvious you're not going to budge on this, but as far as I am concerned and the post office are concerned, it's in Manchester.

I might not live in Manchester but I don't live that far away and do have a Manchester A-Z. I give you exhibit B.

RE: Granada getting demolished....

AIUI nothing is happening at the moment, plans were outlined some time last year to move Granada News into an old converted warehouse in the old part of the Granada Studios Tour so some of the Quay Street site could be pulled down, but these were scrapped as one of the managering directors of Granada Television quit her job and Greg Dyke got sacked from the BBC, as ITV have made it clear that if they were to create a new 'Media Hub' in Manchester they would need the partnership of the BBC, similar to the ongoing 3SixtyMedia operation.

When or if the BBC announce that they are moving some departments to Manchester, then thats when something will be announced, as the BBC would have to build new facilites, as New Broadcasting House is in a worse state than what Pebble Mill was before it got demolished, there is only one main Studio in NBH and thats for North West Tonight, and I don't think the BBC or ITV would be best pleased to constantly use Granada's facilities.

If you watched ITV50 Granada last Sunday they had Tony Wilson on the roof at Quay Street and you don't realise how big Quay Street is and now big the neon G R A N A D A T V letters are either. So Quay Street will be round for some time to come hopefully.

Plans to conolidate onto a smaller part of the Quay Street site are still being seriously discussed, and I would expect an announcement by the end of the year.
