That certainly does look like the W under the layers of paint. How sad, as it is not covered by a hideous yellow and blue and a cheap Amercian looking logo.

that is such a brilliant sign. although tyne tees never had that I still loved the tube that led to reception. I hope they keep some of the building when they redevelop it.
It's a shame it's in such a damn good part of town. It's bound to get redeveloped into something.
The Granada office block at Quay Street was one of the last of the original set of buildings to go up - it was completed in 1961, according to my reading of old copies of Television Mail.
And the houses in the Coronation Street set are not 3/4 size - they are full-sized houses. I think there's some confusion here with an earlier external set which was scaled down and required clever camera angles to disguise the fact.
