And now a personal opinion. I always felt that us in Kent and Sussex served by Southern/TVS/Meridian were always overlooked and forgotten in favour of Southampton and the south coast. For example, the recent ITV50 regional programme hardly mentioned Ron Lobeck, Mike Debens or any of the other faces of the South East, instead we got Fred Dineage et al. Very nice, but not really relevant. Although the BBC is a bit better, we still have to put up with Inside Out South East sharing stories from Inside Out South, and a Southampton insert for the Politics Show. I'm not really interested in what's going on in Southampton, Portsmouth or Reading, thanks TV companies! Evil or Very Mad

For years Kent and East Sussex had no local programme from the BBC but had to make do with the London option. That is why Southern and meridian built up such a big lead in the area

Sorry to be a bit picky, but could we perhaps get a picture without the arborial additions, please?

Anyway... A couple of contributions courtesy of MHP Private Parts/The Continuity Booth:

Derry's Cross in Westward Days:

(There would have been a picture of The TSW building here but TCB doesn't allow remote linking - so you will need to go to their site then click on ITV, then TSW, then History/Pres and scroll down to the dark grey box)

... and Derry's Cross now (now known as the Foot & Bowden building:

And according to one poster on MHP - as part of the redevelopment of the City centre, this building is to be redeveloped, with all vestiges of the original use gone

Well that's changing - the South East is getting its own Politics Show opt.

Yippee!

Any more info? Where did you find out from?

While BBC Manchester still has the grimy remnants of their old logos from the 1980's of the front of their building,
over at YTV's HQ on Kirkstall Rd, looks like they've probably laboriously scrubbed away any grubby imprints,
the old YTV chevron logo may have left behind, which some sort of industrial strength cleaning fluid!

Now thats interesting. They could have painted over the shadow of the old signs though!

What did the BBC Manchester building look like before?

I think it was in Broadcast, and I overhead a conversation about it last week. It starts in a couple of weeks and is being made by an indie based in Brighton

Apologies for that James, but on the day I took the picture I was wary of being spotted and thought of as a terrorist planning my next "hit". The hedge actually runs all the way across the front of the building IIRC. I will try to take another one in the next few days. In the meantime here is one looking from the car park (believe me, it is a quite unremarkable building!) Confused

I thought it used to look quite good when they had the big Westcountry W logo painted on the satellite dishes - now, of course, sadly all I think they have on the dishes are the ITV squares!

I have found an image of one of the dishes with the W logo on it.

And this picture showing the original buliding decoration. Rolling Eyes

actually that set looks VERY fab even though it's so small. I prefer sets like that in the regions.

This is the oldest pic I could find (via Google Image Search) of BBC New Broadcasting House on Oxford Road . . .

I can't believe the 'NW' shadow has been there for that long! Though you can't see the shadow of N O R T H on the building, so I presume that wasn't there for long (or for when the BBC Super North region existed for the best part of the 1990's)

Though the old BBC logo must have been on there for some time, how long has New Broadcasting House been in use? I would have guessed about 30 years by now.

For the BBC's NBH in Manchester. They could spend more money on the BBC's obsession...

It seems like it is the way of the future.
