TV station logos that have stood the test of time

I thought it might be interesting to see how many stations out there have not ever changed their fundamental image. Sure, they have refreshed their style of presentation etc, but the actual physical logo has never changed.

I can think of two off the top of my head. Channel 4 in the UK and CNN. Both channels have never deviated from their classic lettering or style.

How many others can be found around the world? And for the avoidance of doubt, these stations still have to be on the air to count, and be at least a few years old.

CNN logo still looks good and it looks tidy on screen in the red and white squares.

I think MTV is still using the same logo it launched with and is well known.

The Dave logo has been the same since it began in 2007. Not sure if it was always inside a black circle, but the name Dave has always been in the same typeface.

The MTV logo was chopped in not quite half a good few years ago - to lose the “Music Television” text and the lower bit of the “M”. For good reason, because at the point it did so the “Music Television” was being ever increasingly ridiculed when the channel was playing less and less videos.

Nor can Dave count, because it had a history as U.K. Gold Classic/UK Gold 2/UKG2/UKTVG2 before it was rebranded Dave.

CNN is a really good example, because I think the most they’ve done with the core logo is change it’s colour from time to time. Even the Channel 4 logo, while basically the same, has gone through tweaks (the circles, the box, the 3D tilted version).

I thought about MTV but it has changed slightly in that the bottom portion of the physical logo is now missing and “Music Television” was always underneath the logo...

To rdd, I’ve included Channel 4 as the fundamental ID is the same... the circles etc around it at times are not counted (ie: decoration) - I’m looking for the actual main ID.

A couple of years after they renamed all the UKTV channels, they put the logos and DOGs in a circle to create some sort of consistency on trails or whenever the channel logos appeared together. They've since moved away from that.

If we expand the idea to various strands, BBC Learning Zone. 17 and three quarter years it lasted, the last bastion of the 1997 era still going strong in 2015 Very Happy

I was going to say CBeebies too, looks like it has overtaken Learning Zone in terms of longevity. Some of the idents and surrounding packaging has probably changed from 2002 but its still ostensibly the same.

I think BOX Nation, Bloomberg and Al Jazeera might be contenders too? Not sure about the latter though...

Does anyone have any international stations?

Since ‘86 in fact. Although different peacock designs had been used before then. Originally with the introduction of colour programming on the network, I believe. 🦚
