TV Sponsorship

Don't forget to also talk about the sponsors of ITV regional weather back before the 1993 franchise change. I can remember Land and General sponsoring Central Weather and Norwich Union sponsoring Thames Weather.




Speaking about Super Channel and Sky Channel back in the 1980s, their weather forecasts were used to be sponsored.

Add these to the existing sponsor list or a separate list for regional weather sponsorship:

You can see two sponsors at the end of both national weather and regional weather from the Central region in 1991:

I'm pretty sure Legal and General sponsored all of the ITV stations during 1991 through around 1993. They certainly did for both YTV and Tyne Tees, and I believe HTV, TVS and Anglia also.

Tyne Tees weather sponsors during the 90s also included Northumbrian Water and Sun Life among others.

Did Northern Spirit (formerly Regional Railways, later Arriva Trains) sponsor TTT Weather in the late 90s, or was that just YTV?

I certainly seem to recall Tyne Tees having the Northern Spirit sponsorship for a time too.

It appeared not long after they did quite a big piece on the local news about the rebranding of the Northern Spirit service from memory - Even at that young age I remember wondering at the time if they had been 'sponsored' to produce that report too!

Kwik fit for years sponsored Stv weather, from92 onwards.

I don't really remember the sponsors in the 90's other than Sunlife and Legal and General (and obviously Powergen). However, in the 2000's I remember the majority of them. YTV was I think Yorkshire Electric, LWT had a cinema chain and someone had Amerada. And didn't Staybrite Windows sponsor Wales for a bit before everything went down the BMI Baby route?

Legal and General sponsored the local weather for every region except Thames. Carlton and Meridian also had L&G for a while too.

IIRC I don't think Channel or Scotland had it either.

Like I said above Stv had kwick fit for years.

I think they sponsored Community Link, rather than the weather in both regions. YTV Weather was long term sponsored by Yorkshire Electricity from the mid 90s until the 00s
