Had potential. Was slightly better in the second series but realistically was going to have a job to keep up with the original. But overall it was better than that strange hybrid concoction that was 1995 Krypton Factor.

God, that Krypton Factor reboot was disappointing.

I should make myself more clear, STV did have a spot but it was once a week during Glen michaels Cartoon Cavalcade.
I also believe Granada nor ant london station had a birthday spot. Im unsure if TVS did.

Pretty sure none of the big regions had birthday spots. Without wishing to be unkind, it's the kind of thing you would only see on the small ITV regions that were that bit homelier.

To be honest I was a little harsh about YTV. Redvers, Maggie and Graeme Roberts could have pulled it off quite well, even OOV, but it wasn't really suited to YTV's "style" unfortunately. [Apologies, I digress.]
Could you imagine the birthday spot with the lovely Paul Lally though?!?
That said Tyne Tees ran theirs with Allan Cartner OOV when he was covering (complete with a "Birthdays with Allan Cartner" slide no less) so anything is possible!
Actually I'm sure ATV *did* call out birthdays in the late '70s during "Watch It", unless someone can correct me? So that's one larger station that bucked the trend.
Not sure there will be that many ITV stations, large or small that read out birthday greetings to senior citizens during prime time as Tyne Tees occasionally did mind, that's taking stuff to a new level -- along with Bill in particular giving shout outs for contestants from the region appearing on game shows, also in prime time!

Not unkind at all - the smaller stations had the edge in that they understood what 'regional' actually meant - unlike the larger companies that laboured under the misapprehension that they were networks in their own right...
