I couldn't find out who sponsored Puffin's Pla(i)ce.

I don't know about other times but in 2004...

So it was Jersey Ice Cream in 2002.

The Krypton Factor was not sponsored by Sage, it was funded by them meaning it was 50% ITV and 50% Sage.

Ad-funded programming is a type of sponsorship.

If anything its the biggest type of sponsorship as it reminds people constantly what the sponsor is. Does anyone know Tyne Tees or Meridian or Anglia birthday sponsorships?

TTTV's birthday spot was only ever sponsored by Golden Wonder, and for a relatively brief period in around 1992-3.

I remember that for a while (early to mid-90s I think) the Tyne Tees birthday spot was sponsored by Golden Wonder. Odd, because it wasn't a programme as such (it certainly wasn't mentioned in the listings mags), just the continuity announcer appearing in vision reading out a few birthday greetings before announcing into the next programme.

Previously the CA fitted birthdays into any appropriate junction but by the earlyish 90s they were normally only read out once a day. A Golden Wonder slide and recorded announcement by Jane Jermyn would appear before a cut to the duty announcer with a standard TTTV backdrop. I think this may have continued until March 1996 when all continuity moved to Leeds, or it may have disappeared somewhat sooner.

That was only done for a couple of years between 1992 and 1993, and was usually accompanied with a specific Birthday Spot background (although occasionally they'd use the standard one). They'd reverted to the unsponsored version by the time playout moved to Leeds in September of 1993.

Thanks for clearing that up.. as a matter of interest, did birthday greetings last very long after the move to YTV? With IVC surviving into 1996, did Bill, Kathy et al continue to read out birthdays?

Yes; both the birthdays and Lookaround survived until the end of IVC, albeit with less time for the former as the years went on (TTTV dropped the single promo (and the space where YTV's ident went) around 5.10 in order to have a 40-second spot, which I guess was more or less sufficient).

In Lookaround's case, they even managed to shoe-horn in the News, Joblink and LA in the 12.20-30 news slot on Wednesdays, generally losing the intro/outro animations, promo and ident into the news in the process. Joblink of course continued well into the 2000s.

Any idea about the other two?

No idea I'm afraid. Anglia didn't seem to have any sponsorship in 1997 when I was in Norwich.
