I went to America a few years ago and before the plane took off the news was shown and I could've sworn that I saw TV-am News from Sky - I was on a Virgin Atlantic flight.

Can anyone confirm this?

Was it a nostalgic clip? Because Sky News did - when TVam was broadcasting - produce their news for them.

No it was the news that day - do any other airlines do that?

British Airways show BBC World News bulletins - both from the joint overnight service and the separate daytime service.

BA also show a BBC World Newsweek show - which is a weekly news-update service - presumably designed for the long-haul business traveller who hasn't seen much news for a while

Virgin show Sky News - they blank the clock with a white square to avoid you knowing how old it is!

I believe other airlines broadcast a news bulletin as well. In fact CNN run a service in the US specifically for airline lounges - CNN Airport News (??) It was a bit Bloombergy when I saw it, and repeated very frequently, but was useful, and I guess is supposed to be viewed for short periods only!

Yeah, the CNN Airport Network.
There's only about 3 anchors, they record about an hour and play it again and again Smile

CNN Airport Network - it's shown in most airports across the country -- it's very similar to Headline News

In JFK they show Discovery Animal Planet. That way they can be sure there will be no mention of planes or plane crashes!

When I was on BA a couple of weeks ago, the BBC News they were showing must have been a builletin that was nearly 24 hours old. My flight took off at midnight UK time & the programme they were showing from from the previous night (even though there was no time, this was obvious because it was coming from N24 studios). However, this was better because overnight BBC World is more focussed on British news (which I had been lacking for nearly 2 weeks!) than during the day.

The BBC astons though are very hard to read on the screens that come out of the seats. The fact they are not a solid colour make them harder to make out. Similarly, it is shown in 14:9 which reduces the picture further on a 4:3 screen.
