STV recorded a 6-part series of "Larry Looks Lightly" starring Larry Marshall some time in the mid 80s, but they never made it to air. Having been at several of the recordings (complete with audiences) I wasn't entirely surprised that they never appeared. STV also made a couple of kids story programmes called "Robot & Dragon" with Maggie Palmer that stayed firmly in their can.
But practically every TV company has made a pilot of some sort that never got further than the Programme Controllers VCR machine!
The was that one on RTE that was broadcast about a boat, and it had the celebrities on the boat on they had to man it etc, but then the boat sank and they stopped it half way through the series.
remember one from the late 90's with Michael Barrymore and Linda Bellingham played his mother, I think he was trying to do serious drama but it didn't work
Don't ITV have a heck of a lot of drama sitting in the can on their shelves that they can't afford to show? (Something to do with the way ITV funds its drama?)
Presumably as this gets older it will be less relevant...

Anyone got a name for it?
Ah, another one for me, I think! the details are a bit off (it wasn't celebrities, and it didn't end the series - they just carried on with a different boat) but the show you're thinking of was "Cabin Fever" from 2003. The camera crew weren't actually on board at the time of the accident so they missed the most dramatic part of the whole venture, but that didn't stop the ratings from shooting up afterwards!

WOW! Cabin Fever, god that takes me back. I watched that even before the boat sank, and it was in my mind not days ago.
There is still an episode of Deal Or No Deal still waiting to be shown.
On the day of broadcast, not the contestant but their 'friend' who was behind them in the audience died. Channel 4 pulled the show and replaced it with 'a classic show from the archives' and because of the contestant rotation that one was never aired.
I was going to say ITV still have 80 odd episodes of Golden Balls to air - then I noticed they are going to unspool some of them starting again next week.
Anyone remember the ITV Saturday night game show Celebrities Under Pressure. It was first presented by Melanie Sykes and then Vernon Kay took over, the show was very simular to Cilla's Moment of truth. In approx 2005 I went to several recordings of the 4th series that was never shown. One of the celebs who did a challenge in the studio was kenzie from chav band Blazin' Squad. He had just come out of the big brother house a few days before this show was recorded. Jenni Bond was also a celeb who I remember did a challenge for this 'unaied' 4th series of Celebrities Under Pressure.
I also went to a recording of this awards show for ITV. Cant remember what it was called, but it was a 'mock' awards show, with celeb look-alikes and Dale winton presented, giving awards for the best look-alikes? Now it was shown one year on ITV, but the year later, I went to the recording and that one never got shown? The lovie awards or something?? Anyone else recall this??

Surprised they've never sneaked that in over the summer when shows are repeated. I wonder if it was counted then in the 1000 episodes - I'd guess so. Also, did the contestant get their prize (do we know what they won?). as often with game shows prizes are only paid out when the episode airs.
Back in the mid 90s, I went along with a few friends from university to Yorkshire TV to be in the audience for a low-budget, regional celebrity quiz hosted by Barry Cryer, called 'Cryer's Crackers'.
Two episodes were shot whilst we were there. On one though, the late Lynne Perrie (Ivy from Corrie) was a panelist, and was clearly totally inebriated. It was quite embarrassing to watch in fact, and the episode never made it to air.
