So that explains why it was called Chucklevision. I remembered Billy Butler's bits in it but not the rest of the format

With that bit in Liverpool with the sofa I wonder if this was made in that period while Manchester Studio A was out of action and they had a makeshift facility in Liverpool, as used for On the Waterfront?

Re. Grandstand . . . there was the original 1958-1971 theme, but the Keith Mansfield theme wasn't introduced until 1975.

There was this, in between (by MOTD composer Barry Stoller)

Speaking of Match of the Day;

1964-1970 . . .

1970-present

Without posting videos there's a good few themes from BBC Sport that have been dropped or radically altered after many years of use throughout the 70s, 80s and 90s - the old athletics, darts, bowls, skating and tennis themes all disappeared. And golf and snooker have been remixed almost being recognition. Rugby Special also changed a few times in the 90s during its original run as a weekly highlights show.

In fact, there's only one that I can think of that has lasted since day one (albeit with a few minor adjustments):

To be fair CBBC had totally changed it's demographic by then, and the show had 'jumped the shark' by moving to Liverpool, which seemed silly. But then Waterloo Road did something even worse, considering it wasn't a kids show years down the line.
Yeah, WR going to Scotland didn't make sense. The pupils wouldn't move in real life, and they don't do GCSEs in Scotland, which means they were doing the wrong curriculum.

The show also changed its entire premise - Waterloo Road was always a rough, run down school on a council estate but from series 8 it was a privately funded boarding school in the middle of a rather nice housing estate.

Also not sure it's been mentioned but Waterloo Road series 2 onwards used a different theme entirely.

Here's a corker - Green Fingers, performed by Harold Rich and His Players - used as the Gardeners' World theme from the late 60s to late 80s. (Wikipedia suggests this was the second GW theme.)

(Edit: this appears to be the first, 1968 theme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5G-JJg1Qck&feature=youtu.be&t=2m34s)

How about this for an oddity in theme tune changes…

The BBC's Film programme has traditionally used the jazz song 'I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel to Be Free' as its theme tune. The beginning of this song was used as the theme tune up until Barry Norman left.

Since Barry Norman left and Jonathan Ross took over, they've used a different arrangement of this theme. Or so you would think. What they actually did was use the same recording, but a different, more uptempo section later on in the song.

Listen below. 0:00-0:35 (and beyond as a bed) was the section used in the Barry Norman years. From 2:47-3:05 (approx) you can hear the version they've used since.

Though of course, there was the short-lived "extra intensity" version in 1996, which even Richard didn't like.

Has that ever surfaced online? Can't say I've ever come across it.

Ohhh, I thought you were talking about the theme tune rather than the actual countdown. Richard was right though. It was cack.

As mentioned above, Waterloo Road series 1 had a different theme compared to the rest of the show, same titles though.

One which was mentioned at length not a few months ago, was how SM:TV Live had a different theme for its first few episodes, but also the same titles.

The National Lottery had quite a few changes over the years, I always did wonder if they would have continued to bother doing the live draws with the game show presenters had Fathers For Justice never happened - it must have been a pain ensuring the presenters looked as identical as possible to their recorded shows every week!
