Inspired by the Generation Game discussion in the Bruce Forsyth thread starting a thread to discuss TV shows that changed their theme tune during their run. Starting things off with Surprise Surprise

1984 (Series 1-9)

Another variation pre the 1992 new version

1992 (Series 9 onwards)

Around 1996 (Same theme but Cilla stopped singing the opening by then)

And then the revival has had 2 versions

How 2:

1990-1995?

1996-?

There was a set of titles in between the last one and this one which doesn't appear to be online.

And there was a final set of titles after this, but again it doesn't appear to be online, though here's the logo:

Haven't they tried to remove that original Only Fools and Horses theme from existence? Every repeat i've seen of Series 1 has the well known theme.

It did get left in on repeats of the first episode and the 1981 Xmas edition for years, but more recently Gold have replaced their version with "remastered" (AKA the DVD versions- complete with the music cuts) ones, so it's now gone, even on those two episodes.

I can't say I really understand why they decided to eliminate it, it's not like it's something that usually happens with other shows that change theme tunes to more well known ones.

Hollyoaks

And the latest version is more an update of the previous one :

You can still here the original music I believe in one episode of series one, its used as an underscore.

Have I got news for you:

That HIGNFY theme tune really is bizarre, it also presumably would have had to have been updated each time the titles changed as the sound effects match the visuals. The theme tune they used from series 2 was actually used as the closing theme tune in series 1 IIRC.

Play School

Couldn't find the original except in a mock, then in 1974 it changed to :

Slight moderation in 1979

And total change from 19th September 1983 :

I'd mention Doctor Who, but I think that's been documented well enough!
