The National Lottery will return to primetime Saturday night TV from this weekend - but this time on the UK's biggest commercial broadcaster, Camelot has announced.

The operator said the Lottery draw would be fronted by "well-known ITV personalities", and would feature a number of wraparound concepts bringing to life to difference the Lottery makes to life in the UK.

In for two pound, in for an estimated £3.7 million, doesn't have the same ring.

"Poached" by ITV is a bit of an overstatement isn't it? If anything it sounds like Camelot have paid ITV to air it as an extended advert, much like the Health Lottery draws on C5.

Much needed for Camelot - doesn't take a genius to link their performance over the last year to losing the exposure a presence on BBC1 had. Will be interesting to see if the BBC drop the results summary.

Presumably will be tagged onto a commercial break then as opposed to being an insert in a show? And marked up as a commercial presentation?

If it is to end up like the Health Lottery draws, I don't see how it'd make any more difference than their usual ad campaigns. I think the decline is down to the general response to the entry fees going up and an extra ten balls being added to the draw, as well as the failing promises that the jackpot would be increased, when in actuality the difference is barely noticeable.

No.

"The new partnership will run in conjunction with current National Lottery results-checking options. This includes the voiced draw result captions on BBC One four nights a week and live draws on The National Lottery’s own digital channels."

Although online ticket sales rose by 50% of their previous value, and now stand at about £600M a year, that is still only 20% of all sales.

I was surprised at this. I expected the online purchases to be far higher, where you don't need to check your numbers, you just wait for an Email from Camelot if you win anything.

I have't watched a live lottery draw ever since they introduced the online tickets. I can't see this being of much use to ITV, unless they're getting paid to show it.

I can't say I'm surprised, they are mostly an impulse buy when stood at a checkout waiting to pay for something else.
