I think there is a clear winner there in the battle of the soaps then - the top 50 stats of one Rugby final, one Vicar of Dibley, one Diana, two Britain's Got Talent, one EastEnders (at 50) - and 44 episodes of Corrie say it all. Add in the next 50 and it's just an extra 10 EastEnders compared to 40 more Corrie.

The initial overall ratings (one entry per programme) though do show a much more varied pattern of viewing than you might expect.

With stats like that though it's really does spell out why Corrie will be airing at least 5 times a week for the foreseable future and beyond.

Indeed. That is quite surprising actually. I don't think it's had a good year in terms of quality but a lot viewers still seem to love it. Nice to see Britain's Got Talent in the (non soaps dominated) top 5. Definitely the breakout hit of the year. All the other entries are either established favourites or one-off events.

Nice to see Coronation Street is as popular as ever, despite some people thinking they have had a bad year.

They have.

No, some people are of the opinion they have had a bad year. Whether or not Corrie has been good over the past year is a matter of opinion - there is no right or wrong answer.

However the ratings suggest its as popular as ever.

Well, technically not as popular as when it was getting upto 17-18m a week! Wink

Good point... but I believe TV bosses tend to pay more to audience share percentage these days anyway, as they tend to be more of revealing picture of viewing habits.

Well EE may have scooped up awards this year, but its top episode is around 3 million viewers fewer than Coro's top-rated episode. Also the above table shows that Coro consistently tops the ratings... so EE may have won a few battles with awards, but I think I can say it definitely hasn't won the war so far this year! Wink

I agree totally. And EE hasnt won that many awards this year - only the NTA out of the "Best Soap" ones I think. Corrie won most of the others - definately the Soap Awards and TV Quick Awards.
