I actually LIKE 5 News. It is down to the point, and doesn't worry about genre looks. It is however, going to have a new look.

Who told you it was going to have a new look?

I am not sure about whether it is going to get a new look, because normally it is redesigned when the idents are, and they have only recently changed them, so I think it would seem unlikely, however the studio is horrible, and needs a change, so perhaps.

I was talking to my friend in Leeds, who is a TV Producer, and he heard from a friend, that it is having a new look. I agree with cheshirec because it is a very handy service to have. Who knows, they could be setting up a news channel, 24,5 (24Hrs Day, Channel 5) Rather good!

Something which has confused me is ITV saying they want to set up a news channel.
How could they? Their news is provided by ITN, who already have one!
I know that some ITN employees are contracted to work for ITV, hence, Julia Sommerville has left ITV, and only works on the news channel, because she isn't contracted to work on ITV, but how would it work?
I cannot understand it.
I expect that one day most of the major broadcasters in the Uk will have some sort of news channel, or perhaps something like Sky News Active available.
Nearly all of them have in the US, only ABC (which were going to set one up, but changed thier minds) and CBS, who are cutting down as they say they cannot compete with the likes of CNN and Fox etc, don't have news channels.
I would also expect some of the broadcasters to set up radio networks, they all have them in the US, at the moment only the BBC and Sky have radio networks (ITN has stations liked to it, but not ITN branded, such as News Direct and IRN)
I expect we will see some sort of Channel 4/5 radio networks eventually.

Actually thats not true. they have only redesigned the studio once (well they actually got a studio, rather than just broadcasting from the newsroom, which is still colourful) and when they did that it was about febuary last year and the last two sets of idents have been launched around september time.

Yes, you're right.
But anyway, the current design was relaunched in Jan 2000, so perhaps they are ready for an update now anyway.
And, the current design follow the previous set of idents theme, which were horrible.
It was much better when they were in the newsroom, I hope they do that again.

Yes, although I fear that the newsroom has changed since we last saw it in the beginning of Jan 2000. They do news roundups for 5 News at Breakfast from the newsroom, and it's now really boring (unless it's a different one!)

At lunchtime when they go up to the newsroom to find out from the editor about what is going to be in the main programme at 6, the newsroom still appears to be decorated as it was before the relaunch.

Yeah, it's confusing. Perhaps in the morning they use the main ITN newsroom or something.

On another subject(ish), in the background to the ITV news some screens do appear to change, is this a preset sequence or is the image real (although not directly where it seams)
