It's an incredibly creepy video..... unbelievably the first time I saw it was the day after it happened when it was shown on Newsround! There's a generation of kids now who can't look at Max Headroom
I often wondered how much, if any, coverage there was about it over here. Even though I've seen the footage countless times and know it almost word or word, I still can't watch it without feeling at least a little unsettled. Especially in a still like in those thumbnails.
Still fascinating how the culprit was never identified too. Rumours have come and gone including a Chicago-based comedian pulling a prank, and two brothers who were involved in a radio club or something who had apparently told somebody "make sure you watch WGN tonight" or something along those lines.

For some reason this Max Headroom incident has acquired its own IMDB entry, with Trivia, Goofs, Reviews and is rated 8.6 out of 10 after 116 votes.
Gotta love the internet sometimes, an illegal pirate broadcast has a higher rating than the source material the character started in!
There was a similar incident, thankfully not quite as shocking, on what I think was LNN where the presenter was signing off thinking it was a rehearsal, and said things like "take care, miss you" before she started making sarcastic kissing noises.
