Well don't - because it's not known as "Crosspool" - fact!

I know I really should let this drop, but have a look here - the BBC's coverage area maps for local radio in Yorkshire. Take a look at the Radio Sheffield map

http://www.arar93.dsl.pipex.com/mds975/txmaps/yorkshire.html

You'll notice a transmitter on 88.6MHz called Crosspool, with a grid reference of SK 324870

Compare that with the Grid Reference listed for Sheffield by BBC Reception and you'll see that these are the same site, and that it is referred to on that map, by the BBC, as Crosspool, undeniable fact

Fight, fight, fight!

I'm taking Steve's side here, it's definitely called Crosspool.

Imagine sending an engineer to the "Sheffield" transmitter. Anybody want to guess that his very first question would be "Which Sheffield transmitter?".

Yep, the photo on mb21 with a Crown Castle sign outside saying Sheffield is hard to argue with on that Smile What is in question is whether it is also known as Crosspool

Anyone know if a pool or indeed, a cross is actually in the vicinity of the transmitter?

There is no transmitter called "Crosspool" in the BBC transmission database.

There is a "Sheffield", alternate name "Tapton Hill", and a "Sheffield MF", alternate name "Broadfield Road".

The Sheffield transmitter is at the SK324870 grid reference that Steve lists above as "Crosspool". Sorry Steve!

The Sheffield transmitter is based on an underground reservoir.

You can look all day at websites -it's called the Sheffield transmitter. I know that for a fact because I've lived in Crosspool all my life and I know it inside out.

Obviously, you really don't believe me. Come to Crosspool. There's even a sign on the gates at the top of Evelyn Road with the words "The Sheffield Transmitter - Lydgate Hill". I can't be bothered to go up the road to take a photograph for you.

Dear me - you won't have it will you!

I have said several times in this thread that I fully accept that it is called the Sheffield transmitter - and that the sign outside says as much, , but it is also "known as" both Tapton Hill and Crosspool.

However I won't accept your argument, which consists simply of you saying "it isn't called that - fact" as outweighing the evidence of a map produced by the BBC which names to it in black and white as Crosspool as linked at the top of the page.

Once more for the hard of thinking: I fully accept that it is called Sheffield - no need to argue that point - but it is also called Crosspool. The fact that it is called Sheffield and the fact that it is also called Crosspool are not mutually exclusive.
