^ WTF? I accept that you have an opinion about TV Licensing, fine. But you said BBC4 is not funded by the Licence fee; when you were corrected about it, you rejected it and had your hissy fit.

There have already been people explaining the difference between Free to Air, and Free to View, and you still have a hissy fit. Hell I mean even a 10 year old knows BBC UK Channels are all funded by the licence fee, maybe if you accept the facts, then you can actually talk about something on topic, the fact that you refer to posters as girls in a insulant way shows immaturity.

Surely by buying anything which is advertised on TV, you are paying for the output of commercial channels.

I cannot remember the last time I watched something on Five, but by doing my weekly shop in Tesco, having a car which is advertised on the TV, and playing the National Lottery, I am indirectly funding programming on Five. How do you solve a problem like that?

The license fee costs about 38p per day. I cannot think of anywhere else where you would be able to get a choice of 4 main channels, a news channel, a parliamentary channel, several radio stations and a back-catalogue of TV and Video content as vast as the BBC iPlayer for that price.

Of course, this is just my opinion.

I do not have any argument with your logic, accept to say that in my opinion it would not matter how much it was, but the fact that if i wanted to i could live my life without the car advertised on tv or without a lottery ticket etc. and not be taken to court or put in jail, but i do not think that they should be able to force me to subscribe.
Most of the output is not to my personal taste and i just want the freedom to say "no thank you"

No. What is "crap" is your assertion that BBC4 is not funded by the license fee. It is an absolute fact that BBC4 like all other BBC services except some of the international services, is paid for by the license fee.

That is the only thing which has been referred to as crap, your attitude aside perhaps.

It is not your opinion which is being "attacked", it is the information you presented as a fact, which is in fact a misapprehension on your part, which you still don't seem to want to admit you were wrong about in the face of considerable evidence.

You could of course choose not to buy a car or a lottery ticket, but you almost certainly buy food and drink - which pays for the commercial stations. There's no way round paying for commercial television, and its likely that you pay in excess of 39p per day for it - although that figure will vary depending on how much you spend in the shops.



Well lets take this to its logical conclusion. Could the BBC operate on a subscription basis? Probably not. Would they be forced to take commercials? More than likely.

You would end up paying at the checkout anyway; but inevitably, those parts of the BBC which cost a lot (like the newsgathering operation) would have to be slashed.

It strikes me, Chris, that you feel you got value out of the BBC once. You admit that it is better than TV anywhere else in the world, and yet you would rather not pay anything for it.

You're entitled to your view, just as I am entitled to mine. I would simply suggest that a relatively small fee by everyone pays for a massive commercial-free television and radio service for the benefit of all.

A £30 or £40 per month Sky subscription will get you some great channels like Discovery, but it will also get you masses of garbage. Just as with the BBC you have to be selective about what you watch so you get the best value. A cheaper Sky sub costs £360 per year versus just £140 for the commercial free BBC channels.

Incidentally, I found your SHOUTING rants above to be very offensive indeed - far worse than anything that has been uttered to you - and yes, I read this thread carefully.

Firstly, you should decide whether you want pay-per-view (PPV) or a subscription - it blurs your point a bit.

Secondly, turn caps lock off - it's to the left of the letter A.

Thirdly, I'm pretty sure the millions of people who watch the BBC's output every day will not "judge" it and send it to damnation.

If you do not want to pay the money, you can move to a country where you do not have to. Zimbabwe is good at this time of year.

Accusing us of having hissy fits when you are typing in capital letters in a distorted, anger filled version of English, is a bit ironic.

And, as another point - which is better for everyone (I consider other people, you see) - opt-in or opt-out. Opt-in means that elderly people who would have trouble with subscription would just not bother. Hackers would be able to watch for free - without being detected. Opt-out means that you have to pay your licence, but if you opt-out you can't. It means that the system is the same, presenting no problems for the elderly, and making sure that it is accessible. It ensures quality TV on the BBC and makes sure that no extra money is spent on a possibly useless system.

Finally, even if you did lead a crusade against the BBC, it will probably be a 1, or 2 man crusade. If you're lucky.
