A very traditional closedown on BBC-2 last night from Phil Vowels along with an even older BBC-2 ident from the 1960s/1970s
Here is a transcript of what he said...
"And so we come to the end of another evening here on Two. With the time at about twenty minutes past two it's clearly time for bed and for me Phillip Vowels to thank you for watching and just to remind you to switch off your set at the wall. Now our overnight sequence of Ceefax Pages mixed to a music track. Goodnight."
It really takes you back thinking about switching off your tv set and taking the plug out of the wall, doesn't it?

The Moon symbol was excellent for introducing news programmes, understated without being sombre. While you might see it every so often (probably put in when the director knows no-one's likely to be looking!) it isn't supposed to air except for times of national reflection and as has been pointed out, the static version has been identified as the one to use if there's a Grade 1 Obit to introduce. It's a shame, I liked it too and used it often in the 2159:50 slot.

Interesting to hear that West are still using the original Helicopter music, I much preferred that music to the newer version. I do much prefer the current music for Kites through...

Windows was indeed rested due to it failing the test for RFI so was withdrawn and has stayed withdrawn.

No, Windows was tested for RFI following a complaint about a week after launch in October 2006. It was reinstated after a couple of days and remained in regular use until 2008 when it was rested along with Kites and Moon. The Windows soundtrack is still heard today at the start of the nightly 8pm news update.

Kites returned full-time in May 2009 when the current re-edits were introduced.

Moon was reduced down to Obit only, but no ident would now be used into an obit just a static slide, so doubt we will ever see Moon again

Like I said earlier, Moon would not be used into a major news announcement. But it remains on server at Red Bee, and in all the BBC Nations, for use in the hours and days after a major/tragic national news event.

Agreed on both!
