For the past few months I've noticed that ITV 1 haven't been showing the lantern idents or break bumpers and I really thought that ident was the best one and it had a very nice piece of music to go with it. Does anyone know the reason why they don't show it anymore?
Also BBC 1 don't use the 'moon' ident or the 'windows' ident anymore? What's the reason because the more variety they have the better so then it's not so repetitive.
It's a standard BBC trait since the introduction of sets with multiple idents to drop a few for no apparent reason. Moon and Windows weren't included in the re-edits and (if I recall correctly) were unofficially rested along with Kites prior to it, so obviously weren't favourites for whatever reason.
Whilst BBC One could afford to jettison a few given the rotation they had amassed, BBC2's policy between 2008/9 was mindless, self-flagellating stupidity, dropping the two best from a set of only 7, leaving 5 + 2 exciting variations on Tent. The result was to turn an average set into a repetitively irksome one.
The ITV1 Chinese Lantern Scandal is a strange one though. I can't imagine the NFU complaint being sufficient to warrant its removal. On those grounds, you could haul a lot of idents over the coals for potentially inciting dangerous behavior. I just thought it was a harmless, unrealistic picture postcard
as are most idents.
Now if you'll excuse me I've got a Capoeira session booked at The Shard.
Always amazed me no-one kicked up a fuss that the cyclist in ITV1's "Bike" wasn't wearing a helmet.
Anyone remember when "Acrobats" was dropped from BBC One for a few days after someone died doing a similar act? Seem to remember it caused a bit of a problem at the time as it was the only local one some regions held...

Not quite -- it was dropped because one of the acrobats in the ident itself (or at least, one of the acrobats belonging to the company who performed in the ident) died performing the stunt.

It definitely wasn't one of the acrobats on the actual ident, although it was speculated at the time that it was. I think it was a friend and colleague of the performers in the ident, however, so it was dropped for reasons of respect for the performers. That's how I remember it anyway, there's a thread somewhere here about it if you look back far enough.
Moon is now BBC ONE's obit ident. So it's still part of the set, but it'll only be used, eg, if there's a royal death.
In that situation, they'd probably just use a still slide with the BBC One logo on it, then cut straight to the news channel. Normal programmes would be abandoned.

Why exactly
was
the BBC 1 'Windows' rested? In terms of theme and content, it seems more appropriate for all-round use than many of the more recent additions... On a side note, good to see BBC 1 West, for example, have at least continued to use the original 'sombre' Helicopter.
Not expecting a Cappuccino from BBC 2 again, but even just one (Sugar Lumps if they can manage it) would be nice.

Indeed, Moon would not be used before a news announcement.
But it would be used into subsequent programmes which, as you say, would most likely change from the billed schedule. And, depending on the situation, it may well continue to be used over the next few days.
