I can tell you, those ann robinson bbc 2 idents freaked me out!

Didn't Matt Lucas do the voice? I'm sure he did, and on the clip on The TV Room, you'll see it sounds similar to Bubbles De Vere from Little Britain.

Thank goodness, I am not the only person who was scared of the Open University idents, that music was really scary! I was also scared of the BBC globe which had a mirror image of it's self in the early 80's and I thought the HTV music and the Tyne Tees idents were creepy! Shocked

..and they had 2's in the background didn't they...odd computer-generated head of Anne though; not scary but still really quite bizarre.

"Touch that remote and I'll break your fingers!" Laughing

Sorry. Anne Robinson BBC2 idents? I never saw these! Very Happy

Has anybody got any captures of them?

About half way down this page.

I actually know the guy who started the company that made them - called BioVirtual who are unfortunately no longer going. They used to have offices on Palatine Road in Didsbury (very near to the first offices of Factory Records!). I think in their time they also did some work on computer games.

You used to be able to download an application into which you could feed various pictures of your head and it would make a 3D model of it for you. Very freaky!! At one point they had a plan to make a version for a mobile phone so that when someone phoned you, you could have a virtual image of their head talking on your screen.

I'm with BBC World - ATV's used to petrify me as a kid, used to remind me of a ginormous eye! Smile

Generic ITV ident with the dove, scrolling pictures and the clarinet music used in the 80's.

Used to scare the be-jesus outta me.

What was scary about the 1989 ITV Generic Ident, I always thought it was quite nice.

Was it the images or the music that you didn't like? If it was the clarinet music then how did you get on when they used it afterwards for the ITV Weather.

I don't know about anyone else, but those ITV "WeatherGens" that were used on the National Weather stings in 1996 (complete with a reworking of the 1989 ITV Generic theme) scared the hell out of me - I don't quite know why...
