I think I found the HTV music and the Tyne Tees ident scary.

But the scariest of all was the Open University ident - after the testcard ended, there could be a silence and a blank screen for what seemed like hours - then suddenly the OU symbol would unfold with the really sinister trumpet fanfare...

I'd better stop - nearly bedtime - I'll get nightmares!

Oh god yes - I was struggling to think of anything until you mentioned the OU - that was 'hide under the duvet' time for me Shocked

Granada's.
Silent, still, and very creepy.

The S4C ones (which I think are still used) with the fire coming out of things! It was so freaky!

Also, any closedown freaked me out. Just knowing there was no-one there anymore when you were alone in the room! Very Happy

Channel 4's "NIGHTIME" ident (circa 1987) was very creepy indeed, especially the music. I can't find it on the internet
anywhere. The nearest I've found is this, from when Ch4 celebrated it's fifth birthday using the "NIGHTIME" music.

One ident that used to really scared the be-jesus out of me when I was a nipper, was the one that was shown before
a mystery/thriller movie on ITV at the weekends in the mid 1980's. The words, "MURDER, MYSTERY, SUSPENSE"
would appear on screen, accompanied by a flash of lighting, and a burst of very creepy music.

And in the "What were they thinking?" category, not a creepy ident, but a disturbingly creepy opening title sequence
from the BBC Schools program "Near & Far". I couldn't bear to watch it then, and it's still extremely creepy even now!

Be afraid . . . be very afraid!

Two versions are available at MHP PP. Search for 'Dave Vorhaus'. Any problems, drop me a PM.

Ooh yes - especially when followed by the opening titles to "Picture Box" which has to be second scariest to the "Near and Far" opening titles mentioned above!

Its the ITV School's on channel 4 spinning idents back in the 1990's for me. For some reason i used to move my feet off the ground when ever those drums started when i was younger!.

...The 80's - mid 90's Channel 4 American Football ident!

Plus, the first time I saw Maasai - that first close-up of the head appearing was sort of jarring.

Yeah, I was freaked out by the spinning ITV Schools idents. I remember having to leave the room! The Channel 4 American football ones (infact, all the Channel 4 ones from around that time) were quite scary aswell.

For me it was the BBC1 C.O.W. globe. Even for 2 years after it I had very nasty nightmares about it. While it was on screen i'd run behind the sofa and bawl my eyes out about it lol. Sounds stupid now but I was genuinley petrified of it.

I am 19 now... so I'm thinking I would have been about 8-12 when this was happening if my logic is right?

Be honest, was anybody here scared of the nine o'clock news studio, titles and music during the 1993-9 virtual era?

19-14=5 years old. The COW was replaced by the laser disc globe in 1991.
