Good idea. Maybe this would stop "Summer Holiday" syndrome.
*ah* but, what about when random insiders make the odd good post? that would prevent that from happening.
I'd say limit to TVH and Newsroom for two weeks, then allow the other boards

Also, this will stop any annoying bots and such which love to spam forums. While TVF is hardly attacked, at least it's there to stop them in the circumstance they find TVF and unless havoc.

Perhaps TVF could employ a system as used by some other fora, whereby when new members register, it takes a week before they gain the ability to make posts. In this week, they're encouraged to explore the site, read others' posts, and get used to the nature of discussions.
Hopefully this would deter all but the most determined of trolls and spammers, and might significantly reduce the phenomenon where one individual registers, within 10 minutes has started 50 inane threads, all in the wrong forum and in txt spk, and then gets shot down in a torrent of abuse from existing members.
Go on Asa, you know it makes sense!

This kind of used to happen. The Lounge (when it was part of TVF) was locked for 10 days to new posters.

They could just change the bots to wait a week till posting. If you wanna stop bots you have to have a captcha.

A time based restriction is probably more effective, as having a post number based system could encourage spam / pointless posts. Though I'm not too sure how easy a time based system would be to implement.
I think the general view is to have a group for new members which is more restrictive and they only get moved into the main member group after a certain number of posts or period of time.

Also, I think we should have a system whereby a user must have X number of (useful) posts in the main forums before they can request anything.
I swear there must be some members here who contribute absolutely nothing to the main forums but constantly request things off people.

A couple of points while we're at it:
Firstly, picking up on the original comment about the mock forums. It works well and any fault isn't down to the mods - or even the posters to be honest. It's more down to the people who reply - quite often a bad mock seems to get loads more replies than a good mock! If it is that bad, ignore it!
And secondly, my main problem is the constant Currently Busy messages (when it clearly isn't!) - though it seems that issue will be addressed in the not so distant future!
