Some changes occurred to Freeview and other digital platforms this autumn:
Sunday 30 September: final day of broadcasting for Ftn on all platforms.
Monday 1 October: Virgin 1 started broadcasting at 21:00 on all platforms. On Freeview it uses the multiplex D video stream previously used by Ftn, hence its broadcating hours on Freeview are limited to 18:00 to 06:00. However it has 24 hour broadcasting on Sky and cable.
Sunday 14 October: UKTV Bright Ideas had its last ever day of broadcasting. it closed down for the final time just before 18:00 that evening.
Monday 15 October: two further changes:
(i) UKTV History moved from its old video stream on multiplex C to the daytime space on multiplex D previously used by UKTV Bright Ideas. Hence it had to cut its Freeview broadcasting hours to 7:00 to 18:00. However its broadcasting hours on Sky and cable were unaffected.
(ii) UKTV G2 was renamed Dave, and came to Freeview for the first time on Monday 15 October. It took the multiplex C video stream previously used by UKTV History, and the logical channel number (19) previously used by UKTV Bright Ideas.
Personally I don’t see why they bothered changing the name, I wish they’d just left it as UKTV G2. It could still have come to Freeview with the name UKTV G2.

The Children In Need mascot, Pudsey Bear had a makeover this year for the first time since his introduction in 1986. Personally I prefer the old one.

Dave's a crap name - but no worse than UKTV G2.
However, I think the rebrand should have gone a bit further so it became more of a showcase channel for UKTV content - and hence could show a greater range of programmes, including a few from UKTV History in the evenings to compensate for the loss of those hours slightly on Freeview (even if it was on a six-hour repeat cycle most days!)
Greatest threat to Freeview though is this pathetic Picnic service Sky are proposing.

Well come on Gavin, It's more fun to give a code to UK TV G2 than it is to Dave I mean come on, what are you supposed to do with that? "D"?
I was going to explain this here, but since I don't want to derail this thread with a discussion about my TV channel codes, I decided to PM Mr Just.

I think you mildly missed the idea that portraying 2007 as a trash can, Mac OS X, Windows or Biffa is connoting the fact that it was bloody deplorable.
Roll on midnight.

Derailing the thread? Like, say, a Virgin Pendilino train?

ITV1 showed a series of Gameshow Marathon this April and May. This time it was presented by Vernon Kay, who funnily enough happened to be a contestant in the previous series of Gameshow Marathon in autumn 2005.
I watched all of them, and thoroughly enjoyed doing so. Some weeks I left my running comments about it on TV Forum during the programme. Here are the game shows it covered this time, along with the idents at the start of part 2 each week:
The Price Is Right (Yorkshire)
Blockbusters (Central)
Blankety Blank (no ident)
The Golden Shot (ATV "In Colour" lightspots)
Name That Tune (Thames skyline)
Mr and Mrs (Border)
Bullseye (Central)
Play Your Cards Right (LWT ribbon)
Any chance of another series of Gameshow Marathon in 2008?
