I'm having the same problem in IE7 with bbcworld.com. Along the top, the menus don't drop down (i.e. TV Listings, News Headlines etc.).

Its generally a sign of poor code, in TV Forums case I don't think the menu ever worked with Opera. As a rule of thumb it's best to code so that it works in Firefox and then tweak it to get IE to behave.

Hard to tell what the cause of this sites' problem is, though the navigation seems heavy in terms of the javascript used.

using opera, it has all the features of firefox but it feels more refined. can't really explain why - maybe its because i don't have to download so many plugins to make it work the way i want it to - opera does everything i need it to 'out of the box'.

i couldn't ever go back to internet explorer - i couldn't use a browser which doesn't have mouse gestures or advert blocking. the adblock extension in firefox (with one of the default rule sets) pretty much removes every advert from every page. the built in content blocker in opera is nice to, letting you click images on the page and blocking them.

whenever i have to use a computer with ie on i am continually suprised at the amount of junk which litters up webpages that i no longer see at home or on my own computer at work.

it's a pitty that so many webpages don't work properly in opera.

I'll have you know, Microsoft Crap v7.0 is as spunky as a night out with Phil.

If that is the case then I wonder why the majority of the country use it and not the other browsers.... and people moan about compatability with other formats!

Because the consumer switches on their computer and sees an icon labelled 'Internet' and double clicks it

i could probably fix the menus. But I'm scared of incurring the wrath of our new leaders...

I think Asa should look into a CSS based menu alternative. I know they can be more of an arse to get working the way you want then Javascript, but has much better compatibility. Here is what I mean: http://www.alistapart.com/articles/dropdowns/

I did have a better link on the same site which has better examples plus how to do it with two levels (such as on Facilities > Links). I can seem to find it right now however.
