Well. From the subtle hint and the logo, I'd say the forum is trying to tell us something... My god, 5 years... I was still in school when I joined, now I've finished that, finished college and now about to restart Uni.

From the BBC One balloons, then dancers, real life 2's, animated ones, ITV hearts, then celebs, and now... The birth of countless new channels, the death of some. The rise and fall of ITV Digital...

Happy Birthday Forum.

Of course a very happy birthday to TV Forum, and congratulations to Asa for five years of running an excellent website. However I must admit that it's quite depressing to see how quickly the sands of five years have slipped through my fingers!

Great adaptation of the TVF logo there, and a superb site.

Happy 5th TV Forum!

Ah, 2001....balloons on 1, ten-year-old idents on 2, hearts/stars/videowalls/globes/boxes on 3, squares on 4, and celebrities trying to be funny on 5.

My first post consisted of the words "I will get my video recorder ready! Smile". That was it. I was commenting on the news that BBC2 were going to bring back an old ident...and they did, the 'Garden' one for the Chelsea Flower Show. I'm surprised at what I got away with - when the Media Websites forum launched, I decided to show my celebration by posting in every single thread in that forum. And guess what? No one noticed!

Somehow I managed to rack up over 1000 posts in less than a year, whereas I've only done a measily 577 since the forum's current incarnation started three-and-a-bit years ago (the last time the forum went completely down and everyone had to re-register, something that seemed to happen every few months during 2001-2).

Here's a few *FAB!* moments in the forum's 5 year history:
*Cheshirec/C@t becoming the first forum member to get 1000 posts, and becoming a 'TV Forum VIP'.
*Asa's 'BBC OFF AIR' thread during the Great BBC Powercut of 2001, one of the fastest growing threads ever.
*The first night the chatroom was open generally, instead of just for special events. I miss the old chatroom chats, they were fab.
*Everyone asking me if I was related to Asa (we have the same surname, you see).
*Asa on Liquid News.
*Version 2 of the 'Look North and Calendar' thread becoming the first thread to get over 100 pages, only to have to be restarted again when the forum went down.
*The forum's brief move to youngjournalists.com, which also saw the beginning of the Mock Designs forum.
*Katherine. Including the time she became a mod for about 10 minutes.
*Asa uploading the original 9/11 thread on the 1st anniversary of the event, on The Lounge (in it's short 'red' phase). Still have that, Asa? Would like to see it again.
*TomD and his Netowork Fourms. I still have the mock I made for the 'Crap Mocks' thread, based on him: http://files.upl.silentwhisper.net/upload7/UGG.jpg
*The legendary '4th Mod' elections of early 2003, and, to everyone's horror, loads of people voting for Katherine.
*Phil's 'fab people' signature image sparking off a craze. Mine had Geoffrey the Giraffe, Wordy, and Jack LaLanne in it.
*Smileyfa87's slow descent into insanity.
*MDR and David_H's ass-busying.
*Jarongate, which incredibly is still censored after three years.
*The 'FIGHT!' thread.
*"Internet chat board TV Forum has been forced to make a grovelling apology to Sky News and ITV News presenter Chris Rogers, over a libellous comment a user posted about his on air appearance. TV Forum administrator Asa Hicks has put the apology on the website today, saying the offending poster, "Jamez", has been banned."
*The Lounge closing and Metropol opening in it's place, with a forum called something like "Site Discussion and Comments" lasting about two weeks.
*Neon Radio.
*Everyone moaning about the 2004 April Fools Prank which changed 'BBC' to 'ITV'. Or the other way round, I forget.
...AND MANY MORE!

A Happy Birthday indeed to TV Forum. If anyone has any old threads archived, I'd love to see them.
Here's to the next five years!

God, I'm never going to forger www_dot_tomd, his crap mock and the "netowork" he never shut up about. If I remember correctly, he was on Digtalspy & TV Ark posting the exact same crap.

Does anyone else here remember Alan Robson, the slightly scary bloke who posted pictures of himself in his wife's wedding dress?

Bloody hell, that's a repressed memory that's been dragged up.

I'm rubbish at trying to remember of things but I remember all of the ones mentioned so far - keep em coming so that my therapy can have a running start.

And who could forget David H and his "what BBC/ITV is best for York?" postings?

Anyone?

Hmmm, thought not. Wink

And who could forget the short-lived 2003 re-revamp of Crossroads, with Jane Asher?

An absoloutely bonkers and just plain bizzarre TV programme which basically took the p**s out of itself. The dodgy rendition of the theme tune, the "look I've got Flash" title sequence, the tacky oh so tacky sets!

Kind of miss it all these years on now.

There's also that brief period that Ison was at the same uni as me. He left shortly afterwards but I understand that I hadn't anything to do with that... I hope!

And the great TV Forum Crisis of 2003 when Jamez got banned for slagging off Chris Rogers. Then TV Mercia got banned and Ison stepped down from Mod. Classic.

I could think of many more given the time.

Did MDR ever realise that Coventry is most definitely not covered by Central News East btw?
