That was such a tear jerking ending that... I've only ever watched it once but remember it well. It hardly ever gets shown does it? They only seem to repeat the "DONT TELL HIM PIKE" episode, or the most popular ones. Never ever seen any of the B&W ones.

Dad's Army - "Never Too Old": L Cpl Jones marries Mrs Fox; the episode ends with the Walmington platoon drinking a toast to the Home Guard.

I did my orginal list by the way by going thru my dvd collection. Hence I know X-Files/Seinfeld I havn't got the last episodes yet.
But some shows that'didn't have an ending done. The 'last' episode is just like a standard episode but no more were made after. (i list my dvds alphabeticaly)
Bewitched
The Detectives
Father Ted
Fawlty Towers
Game On
I Dream Of Jeannie
The League Of Gentlemen
Open All Hours
(Porridge) Going Straight
Some Mothers Do Ave Em
Steptoe & Son
(Yes Minister) Yes Prime-Minister

Well Bewitched ended because Elisabeth Montgomery was married to a producer on the show and she had an affair with the director!! It was kept hush hush but people in the industry I think knew, just like how the industry knew John Le Mesurier's wife ran off with Tony Hancock but the public didn't.
They always show the Dad's Army episodes with James Beck but they made loads after he died ridiculously young. There are some with Talfryn Thomas that are hardly ever shown; they skip these and show the series after Beck died (apart from the Thomas episodes), but even these aren't shown that often.

I think that ending transcended comedy and was one of the greatest moments in TV ever. The first Only Fools and Horses finale where they became rich and walked into the sunset was wonderful...but then they ruined it by coming back. Also I liked the final edition of Noel's House Party when he woke up on the set of Swap Shop and it was all a dream. The final episode of Sapphire and Steel was just a total head f**k!!

James Beck appeared in 59 of the 80 Dad's Army TV episodes. His last show was "Things That Go Bump in the Night", though only in the final minutes which was location footage. He had been taken to hospital prior to the taping of the studio scenes of this episode; it had been hoped that he'd be back in time for "The Recruit" (ep. 60) which was the last show of the 1973 season, but it soon became apparent that he wasn't and so he was written out of that episode. The plan was to bring him back again in time for the following series, which as we all know wasn't to be... Talfryn Thomas was brought in for the 1974 season as a replacement for Beck but it didn't work out as well as was hoped and he was dropped for the remaining series.
The first DA show sans Beck was "Everybody's Trucking" (ep. 61, 1974). Talfryn did not appear in this episode.

Unless of course you're watching on UKTV G2 in which case, like the other night, they put up a great big "coming up next" picture-in-picture style caption over the final scene
Ok, it was just prior to actually "going over the top" but still ruined it.
