Got BBC Yorkshire in Liverpool for the first time since DSO. Picture is breaking up a lot. ITV Yorkshire also showing but no picture. No HD.

Another rescan and they’re gone. I presume it was Emley Moor as they’re the same aerial group (I think) as Winter Hill.

Not checked the car radio recently, but got RTE Radio 1 and 2FM as well as BBC Radio Ulster all on FM a few years ago. Also picked up a Spanish and Arabic-sounding station in the past.

Here’s the latter in case anyone can identify what’s being said:

Heart East Mids, which licences the Heart name and format off Global ironically

That arrangement ended over seven years ago. It's been Gem (106) since 2011 - although similar arrangements stand in other parts of the country where Global wasn't allowed to keep some of the former Guardian Media Group stations it bought, and the brands are franchised to Communicorp instead.

That station always seems to be forcibly sold off in any merger or acquisition. Actually I think the sale of Orion to Bauer is the first time it's made it through a change of owner intact. Possibly when Capital bought Border TV also (flogging the ITV station to Granada but keeping the radio.)

I excuse Heart 100.7 as that's the original one.... before it escaped Birmingham and spread like a virus across the rest of the country is the problem

Oddly, Heart 100.7 seemed to always have a slightly mature, rockier sound than its East Midlands counterpart on 106 under Chrysalis, which focussed more on 80s and 90s commercial dance.

Then Global pretty much networked the lot with London and the rest is history.

The original incarnation of Heart as a West Midlands regional adult soft rock station, bears no relation to the unimaginative quasi national station we have now

The best thing that Heart ever did was the test transmissions for the London one (which originally won the license as Crystal FM) where they simulcast New York radio station WPLJ for a few weeks. I seem to remember they even replaced the ad breaks with local ones.

It was a great listen in the days when listening to radio from other parts of the country was quite unusual, let alone from the other side of the world

So normal now, but that was an experience in 1995. Scott and Todd's breakfast show was a breath of fresh air, along with the rest of the output. Heart's launch was so pedestrian in comparison and a disappointment compared to what we heard from the US.

A rare case of the test transmissions being better than the actual output. That and Classic FMs

I remember Scott and Todd getting into a bit of a slanging match with Caesar the Geezer who was on Talk Radio UK at the time. The sort of thing that would probably be played out on Twitter these days

My dear mother phoned Scott and Todd to complain about that. They did a parody song about him to the tune of Lady Godiva by The Beatles.

Yes, I had that on a cassette somewhere. Not sure if I digitised it when I went through the a few years ago.

Odd things that other people remember that you assume only you do.

Anyway, your mother grassed up Caesar The Geezer? Did she make it on air?

How often does TV Dxing happen in the London Region? There was a good footprint covering the London region with a marginal reception this morning from 6am according to the radar posted a few pages back. I re-scanned about 7.15 this morning but got nothing.

I don't seem to have much luck with TV Dxing. I've been following the radar here: http://www.dxinfocentre.com/tropo_nwe.html but my telly doesn't seem to pick anything up when there's a good marginal signal like this week.
