Channels that are most definitely past their sell by date are QVC and any other shopping channels. Why, in the age of the internet and shopping at your fingertips does anyone need to sit and watch TV to maybe see something to buy being sold by silly gushing sales presenters who could talk for an hour about the health benefits of buying a shiny turd.
QVC and to a lesser extent Ideal World attract an older audience who like the company of the regular presenters in addition to being able to see those products demonstrated without having to go online. While those two channels are still revenue earning and selling a broad range of products, they're going nowhere. The jewellery/craft channels on the other hand I think will go the same way as sit-up tv eventually.
Real Lives seems to be a dumping ground for Sky and the former Flextech back catalogue of cheap docs and US chat shows, although it would do well on Freeview or even added as a pay channel on NOW TV.
Sky Arts seems to be unloved again, but Sky may add it as a FTA channel, which would help raise it's profile and compete with BBC Four on a level playing field.

BBC Two just has no idea what it is supposed to be anymore. All the decent documentaries, culture, arts etc are now focused on BBC Four which has a very limited budget and only airs from 7.00pm each night. BBC Two needs to be their home, and possibly axe BBC Four as a channel, as it does not do enough, and all of its remit can easily be transferred to BBC Two, most of their popular shows like Only Connect have already made the move.
BBC Two is a hodge podge of utter nonsense. They decided not to bother providing children's shows at breakfast time and instead repeat BBC One daytime shows. Look at today's schedule from 6.00am, Flog It, Rip Off Britain, Garden Rescue, Britain in Bloom. Yes, that is just what people want to wake up to of a morning??
Then they lurch back into news with Victoria Derbyshire and the useless and pointless BBC Newsroom Live.
Daily Politics is the only decent proper programme in the morning schedule, providing the political news and views from parliament and the country, excellent, but it sits in a middle of dross.
Then from 1.00pm until 6.00pm we are back to the repeats of BBC One daytime crap. This part of the schedule would suit a channel like UKTV's W channel, but not the licence fee payer funded BBC Two.
Only from 6.00pm until Newsnight does the channel start to have a decent feel to it. Then after Newsnight the channel does dies a death once again.
It is as if the BBC know they have this channel but have no idea how to use their millions allocated to it to do a decent service as the network's alternative channel, for culture, arts, politics, new comedy etc.
Their laziness in not commissioning new idents just exposes how bad the channel is. Can the BBC not afford a few thousand pounds to film some decent idents for their second important television channel? Or are they too busy in trying to fund Chris Evan's £2 million a year deal?
I have no idea how BBC Two can survive in its current form, and it seems the BBC don't either, don't care and are happy with it in its current form.

I will also cite all +1 channels.
While now and again they can prove handy if you've only just missed something, I still fail to see the point of them and wonder about their ultimate viability and purpose.

Handy when there's something on another channel, or if you've a PVR, things on two other channels

Though with catch-up TV even that's becoming less of an argument for them - particularly as they are usually SD (C4+1HD on Freeview HD being the notable exception)
I've not use a +1 channel to resolve a Sky HD clash since we got the Catch Up option in decent HD quality for BBC, ITV and C4.

I wouldn’t say BBC2 is past its best, but certainly its and BBC1’s daytime schedule clearly needs looking at. There’s no distinction or value for money for the Licence Fee payer, Daily Politics/News aside, the output could easily be that of a poorer commercial competitor.
Never get why what is now 5Select has been on for so long, previously when it was 5+24 and My5. Doesn’t really offer anything distinctive. Same could be said for 4Seven also, but at least it has the odd show worth watching.
I’d also add UKTV’s W to the list. It doesn’t seem to know what it wants to be. It’s a channel that shouldn’t be behind a paywall it’s that bad. I don’t know anyone who watches this channel. Compare it to the rest of the UKTV Network where the channels have their own identity and know the audience it is targeting.
